By major metro areas, I'm thinking of those with at least a million or more people in the entire metropolitan area .

I think some likely choices may include San Antonio, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Fresno, Miami, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and (ironically enough) New York City.

Anything over a million by 2050? Definitely not that list. Some realistic possibilities:
Tampa
St. Louis
Orlando
Pittsburgh
Las Vegas
Cincinnati
Nashville
Jacksonville
Oklahoma City
Buffalo
Tulsa
Greenville
Albuquerque
Knoxville
McAllen
Baton Rouge
Piedmont Triad
Fort Myers
Lakeland
