I don’t know anything about San Fran’s Mayor, but I was wondering if Newsom would appoint her? She’s a black woman like Harris, but it seems like some people don’t like her. Anybody know anything about her?

London Breed is a queen.  She needs to stay in San Francisco and keep cleaning it up.  If only we had someone like her in Seattle.

She's great but a bit inexperienced+Northern Californian, which means she's unlikely to get Harris's seat. I think she's towards the front of the pack for Feinstein's, though.

Yep. I heard her on Pod Save America sometime last year and thought she was okay but after she endorsed Bloomberg, I was no longer interested.

Why is the conventional reasoning that Newsom would appoint someone from SoCal?  Breed, like Harris, is a Bay Area politician like Newsom himself is

Eleni Kounalakis is from NorCal (Sacramento). She also worked in San Francisco under both Newsom and the late mayor Ed Lee.

There were a LOT of Democratic mayors who endorsed Bloomberg.  Pretty easy to imagine the reasons why.

Newsom is someone who loves to Make History, mostly to generate new material for his 2024 stump speech; California, despite the state's large Latino population, has never had a Latino Senator. The regional politics mostly follow from the fact that most of the state's Latinos live in SoCal.

Around 60% of the state's population lives in SoCal- but every elected post-Cold War Senator has been from San Francisco or its neighboring counties. VP-elect Harris technically resides in LA, but she was born in, partially grew up in, and established her political career in the Bay Area.

No strong opinion on London Breed.

Massive FF. She's smart and pragmatic and would make an excellent replacement for Kamala, though I personally would prefer Nanette Barragan. She's young and charismatic and there is no Latina in the senate.

Breed replacing Feinstein in 2024 at latest and Barragan named Kamala's successor would be a dream senate duo.
