Obama for the same reasons people said above. Plus, there was a moderate majority on the Supreme Court with Anthony Kennedy as the swing vote. Overall, there is no comparison. No comparison at all. Obama's win was a genuinely hopeful moment in US liberal history that probably will not be repeated for another generation, if ever. I remember taking a drive doing two loops around the I-495 beltway of Washington D.C. for an hour and a half basking in nothing but pure happiness and joy. I was elated.

For about a week. Then it sunk in (for me at least) just how screwed the economy was.
