Democrats: who’s victory made you feel happier? Obama’s in 2008 or Biden’s in 2020?

Biden 2020, because unlike Trump, McCain wasn't a treat to general institutions and democracy.

On the one hand, I'm much happier to see Donald Trump lose than John McCain because I genuinely hate his guts, and I did not hate John McCain. Bush was going to leave office either way, but taking Trump down and making him a one-termer is certainly sweet.

On the other hand, Obama's win was overall a happier moment for a few reasons: Historic moment for the country, obviously, and moreover it was part of a larger sweeping Democratic landslide that gave us a supermajority in Congress. It left us with a feeling of more "hope." Obviously this year's results were more mixed. And they suggest Trumpism might be around for a while, whereas 2008 felt like a decisive rebuke of Bush's GOP.

2020 left me with a mix of exhaustion and relief, so there was not much room for happiness left.

Well, I was 3 in 2008 so frankly, I really didn't care.

In hindsight though, even though Obama's 2008 victory was overwhelming, Trump is a danger while McCain is just someone I had some disagreements with.

2008, because at least there was a few months of fleeting hope where now I know this is nothing more than a brief remission.

I would argue that because of polarization, if Democrats win the GA runoffs, a 50-50 senate, a 224-211 ish House, and the Presidency would be more powerful than Obama's trifecta in 2008. We've already seen how powerful a narrow Republican trifecta was between 2016 and 2018, and since then, polarization has only gotten worse.

2008.  Obama won by a landslide and brought in strong majorities in Congress that actually allowed him to implement some policy in his first two years.  Biden basically comes in as a lame duck due to not having the Senate.

He wasn't a treat to American democracy, but he definately wasn't a threat either I would argue

Obama, hands down. In 2008 I was 100% optimistic about the future. It may not have lasted, but it was a really euphoric feeling, even for my 16 years old self, after eight years of the Bush administration.

I am also optimistic with Biden winning still, but the mess he is inheriting is so much more of daunting than Obama's inherited mess was and without a trifecta like Obama had it's hard to see how he even manages to put a real, long-lasting dent in it. Undeniably though, the fact that I don't have to think about Trump and his ilk being in the Executive branch anymore as of next January is an absolute positive going forward, in spite of whatever uncertainty I still have about the future.

Definitely Obama: I didn't know he was a total fraud, and the Democrats had a solid House majority, and later in 2009 got a filibuster proof Senate.

Obama's in 2008 because I was a child only vaguely aware that it was a Good Thing.

Obama 2008 made me feel great, but I would have been fine with McCain as well.  We couldn't survive another four years of Trump.

Not a Democrat (leaner-from-the-left), but Obama 2008 was downright elating. Biden 2020 is relieving, but it's also exhausting and doesn't inspire much confidence for the future beyond the immediate term of the next two years or so.

Biden due to fact it's against Trump, and Pelosi was in fact telling the truth about how corrupted Trump is and he deserved impeachment, the continued contesting the election just shows at what lengths Trump has changed Fox news with Guilliani into his own Network, and Don Jr and Sean Hannity, and how Mueller failed as a prosecutor to indict Don Jr. Don Jr is an antagonist on this election contesting

Obama '08, hands down. It felt like a dominating victory, whereas Biden 2020 feels like a brief hiatus from insanity. Not to mention, 2008 was great for Democrats up and down the ballot, while 2020 was a massive disappointment downballot, meaning that there's far less hope of Biden accomplishing much.

Oh my God, no comparison. 2008 was the best election of my lifetime and probably always will be.

Obama for the same reasons people said above. Plus, there was a moderate majority on the Supreme Court with Anthony Kennedy as the swing vote. Overall, there is no comparison. No comparison at all. Obama's win was a genuinely hopeful moment in US liberal history that probably will not be repeated for another generation, if ever. I remember taking a drive doing two loops around the I-495 beltway of Washington D.C. for an hour and a half basking in nothing but pure happiness and joy. I was elated.

For about a week. Then it sunk in (for me at least) just how screwed the economy was.

In 2008 I was six and therefore didn't really know what was going on, so 2020, although the 2008 map certainly fills me with glee today.

Obama's victory gave me a bigger sense of joy on election night, it made history and was amazing to witness.

Biden's victory is giving me schadenfreude but as Old Europe mentioned, I'm too exhausted to party like it's 2008. Relieved though.
