I don't see much reason to complain - looks like they've got a good 5 year buffer so that a 17 year old who bangs his 15 year old girlfriend doesn't get rape on his record.

Well, sort of; he doesn't want any age of consent, but if there has to be one he sees twelve as the most reasonable age.

Yes, I do not see any reason for the State to interfere in such private matters at all. But if I were to aim for a compromise, 12 is certainly a lot more reasonable than 16!

Depends how you define it. You could argue that Germany doesn't have one... what is illegal in Germany are a) sexual relations where one partner is under 14 and the other is not b) sexual relations where one partner is under 16 and the other is 18 and over. In either case, it#s only the older partner who's done something illegal.

IIRC (and I probably don't; this is stuff that I dimly recall from years ago) then there isn't actually an age of consent for heterosexual sex for males over here (there's one for homosexual sex obviously; 16 but was higher for years) although I don't think you can legally consent to *anything* without parental permission until the age of 12. The age of consent for females is 16 o/c.

At least it has a clause that does not criminalise teenage sexual experimentation. But it is a shame; I do support a lower age of consent, round about 15 like France.
