Rep. Russell Fry, a republican representative who represents Garden City in Horry County, is exploring primarying Rice.

State Rep. Russell Fry said Sunday that he exploring options for a possible campaign for South Carolina’s 7th Congressional District, a seat currently held by Rep. Tom Rice. This comes weeks after Rice voted to impeach former President Donald Trump, who stands accused of inciting a deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month.

“When you receive an unsolicited word of encouragement to run, you’re appreciative. When you receive a lot, you listen,” Fry wrote in a Facebook post. “For anyone who has ever ran for office (or had a spouse who did), it’s a big undertaking in a lot of ways. So we’re looking at it, praying for God’s guidance, and listening. Your prayers are also appreciated.”

It looks like this is going to be the next NC-11 - an obnoxious scumbag versus a ghoul identifying as liberal. This guy was partners with Erik Prince for decades and while the details of that arrangement are disputed, nothing good could have come out of a working relationship with Blackwater.

Gregg Smith's own military career didn't end in the marines - he ran a Chinese-backed mercenary group operating in Africa that is probably at least half as unethical.

They’re not gonna back the mercenary  They *may* recruit a different credible candidate, but it’s more likely that the DCCC helped recruit Donovan as wave insurance.  

In any case, Boebert may not make it to 2022.  It looks like she may’ve been fraudulently over-billing her campaign for travel expenses (I.e. repeatedly reimbursing herself with thousands of dollars in campaign funds for travel she never did).  I’m sure this will be investigated by the DOJ and if they can prove the requisite intent (and given how many times she did this and how sloppy she was, that’s definitely not out of the question), she may end up getting indicted before 2022 is over.  

O/c, this might not pan out for any number of reasons, but it’ll worth keeping an eye in like 6-12 months.

Donovan seems like a pretty solid candidate, at least from what I can tell from the limited info online. I don't think she'll take out Boebert unless there's a really Dem-friendly redistricting, but I may may make a small donation nonetheless to try to spare us a Boebert vs. Smith election.

While she works as wave insurance, I do think Donovan is the wrong candidate for this district unless some of Boulder gets added in redistricting and am skeptical that she’ll perform much better than our candidate in 2020.  Donovan is fine as wave insurance, but I think State Senate President Leroy Garcia has a much better profile for the district in its current form.  Garcia is a Hispanic from Pueblo who has a conservative streak on gun control. 

That said, this is obviously all subject to change depending on how the district looks post-redistricting.

Not bad moves by the NRCC. Their strategy is far better so far than 2018 / 2020
