And some parlimentary procedure... main motions, previous question, etc.  Don't need to be too strict.. but some sort of modified version would be helpful.

I think one thing the senate could work on a little more is DEBATING these bills before voting on them.

I agree, at the moment we seem to be merely proposing and voting, proposing and voting, proposing, amending and voting.

We need to get some debate into this, make it more lively and interesting.

Why debate it?  People ain't gonna change their positions.  IT's just a waste of time.

I have one question. . . when is Day 1?  Conception?  Often that cannot be exactly pinpointed, or remembered, so then how can one tell 150 days?

are they gonna remember, and what if they do it 10 nights in a row?  no way to know which night pregnancy began. . .

I don't understand why nobody other than Nym and three senators had a problem with this bill when the time limitation was established in trimesters but now everybody seems to have a problem with a time limitation in days.

Just make up your mind and vote on the bill.

Indeed, a trimesters restriction is just as arbitrary, that would be either 90 days or 180 days. The day of conception can be determined by medical testing, I would assume.

For all Democrats/United Left out there from the Northeast region, I urge you to vote for Siege40 for governor.

Harry, as President of the senate, I urge you to:

1. Sort out the results of the votes on the orignial bill and my amendment

2. Decide whether, as a result of those bills, this vote is valid

3. Do something about it!

Yes, what is going on with this? Senators don't even vote on the bills anymore...I'm prepared to sign this, if you folks can get the votes for it.

We need to debate bills a bit, not just sign the things straight away, I don't see how it is any fun if people propose something, we vote and move onto the next thing, part of the fun is the Senate Debates!

Agreed, but the Senate is neither debating nor voting...

I know, we really do need a separate forum.

*JFK takes the floor*

Ok then.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I support this act on principle and applaud Senator Tweed for bringing this issue back to the forefront following the dismissal and veto of the previous Boss Abortion Act which I did not vote for owing to a few clauses which I believe needed to be amended but never were.

While I support this bill however, I would like to draw strict attention to the fact that a similar bill, proposed by StevenNick is before the Senate which I think should be dealt with first. This bill sets an earlier restriction which I am ambivalent about. I am unsure which I prefer, the end of the first trimester or the second trimester.

I am also concerned by the fact that this Bill makes no reference to the baby's health, only the mother's and I feel that there should be an exemption for the baby's health here and feel that I cannot vote for this bill without an amendment to provide for this, so, I would hereby like to submit the following amendment:

First Amendment to the Act

No legal abortions are permitted after the 150th day of pregnancy, unless a certified medical Doctor proclaims the life or health of the woman or her unborn baby to be in question.

I have also changed it to health of "the woman" rather than "a woman" as that could easily be misconstrued as meaning any woman and thus creates a loophole for them to show up with a woman whose health is in question and be able to get an abortion. I believe that, although this is a one word change, it is equally as important as the amendment to include her unborn baby in this.

I have also amended "doctor" to read "Practitioner" as the term Doctor does not cover people such as gynaecologists who should also be able to diagnose whether the mother's health was in danger and included the phrase "with expertise in this area" as otherwise it could be construed that someone such as a chiropodist could provide advice.

Second Amendment to the Act

No legal abortions are permitted after the 150th day of pregnancy, unless a certified medical Practitioner with expertise in this area  proclaims the life or health of a woman to be in question.

I have chosen to submit the amendment to medical Practitioner separately as this is not as important as the other issues and I do not wish for the amendment regarding the baby's health to be stricken down due to my pedantry.

I have titled the two amendments, the first regarding the baby's health and the phrase "the woman" and the second regarding the medical "Practitioner".

I would like to throw out these amendments and hope they shall receive some lively debate!

Thank You

Neither of which passed did they?

I still think that even if there are others on the issue we should debate the Bills or at least somebody propose a rule on the number of Bills concerning a certain issue that can sit on the Senate floor at once.

anyways i am against any abortion act that limits a womans options in cases of rape, incest and the mothers health.
none of these bills will do that, because they all set arbitrary time limits.
