Hey, it's a start.  Here is the bill I would like to propose:

No legal abortions are permitted after the 150th day of pregnancy, unless a certified medical doctor proclaims the life or health of a woman to be in question.

I support this bill, and will sign it into law if passed by the Senate.

it needs to be taken care of first.

No it doesn't.  Who says we can't vote on two bills addressing the same issue?  The real congress does it all the time.

I urge all senators to vote for this excellent new Tweed abortion bill.

There's a point to trying to redice the number of bills around...they're getting too many...no one is able to keep up with them.

that's my point, we can barely cope with the ones we have.

I urge my senator to vote against arbitrary numbers like "150."  Why is it illegal 151 days afterward but not 149?

I oppose this bill, and would also like to see the first bill dealt with properly before discussing this one.

I suggest the senate deal with only the current bils.

To clarify 'five months'.

*ponders proposing an amendment to make it 147 days, 15 hours, 42 minutes and 35 seconds (approx) to bring it in line with 5 lunar months*

Nah I won't, makes it seem even more arbitrary.

At first I thought "lunar" in "calendar or lunar" was referring to the poster Lunar, as he had just made a post...I got very confused for a while... Smiley

Don't you think the arbitrary limit of 150 days underscores the arbitrary nature of abortion laws.  There is no difference between a fetus at 150 days and 151 days.  This is why I oppose abortion at all periods of a pregnancy, because there is no magic day when a fetus suddenly becomes a human being and any effort to establish a time after which abortions become illegal will necessarily be arbitrary.

That being said, I would rather set an arbitrary limit on abortions than allow all abortions to be performed unfettered and unregulated.

I support this bill.

Well yes, it is somewhat arbitrary, but so are a lot of things in life...speed limits, voting age requirements, drinking age requirements, etc. In all cases, they try to pick a reasonable number, and you could always make this argument that you are making, that it's arbitrary and therefore pointless, and it has to be all or nothing.

In this case, it's not completely arbitrary, the earliest at which a fetus has ever been born and survived outside the womb after birth is about 5 months. That's why I personally support making that the cutoff.

I think one thing the senate could work on a little more is DEBATING these bills before voting on them.

Good, the vote is one for, none against. Keep it up and we'll have it as law! I am in favor of any bill which outlaws the practice of abortion

And some parlimentary procedure... main motions, previous question, etc.  Don't need to be too strict.. but some sort of modified version would be helpful.

I think one thing the senate could work on a little more is DEBATING these bills before voting on them.
