Actually no.  As governor of Arkansas he was not unlike the late Bob Casey.  Here are some of his accomplishments:

*Signed legislation creating a health insurance program for children of families that were too affluent for Medicaid but could not afford private health insurance.

*Signed legislation to cut taxes for Arkansas citizens.

*Led a public relations campaign for a bonds program to overhaul the state's roads.

*Led a campaign to dedicate 1/8th of the state sales tax to improving the state's parks and natural resources.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

All in all, combined with recent comments he has made on immigration and global warming, he is more a populist Republican than a strictly conservative one. He certainly cannot be compared to Mike Pence or Tom DeLay.  And were he to win his party's nomination, I would be very hard-pressed not to vote for him.

Perhaps it was politically popular. The Democrats have 2/3rds majorities in both chambers, so they could have probably over-ridden his vetoes.

Well that proves that he's a liberal Democrat.

I searched for "Global warming" and "Huckabee" and found that he thinks that the Candian national parliament building is an igloo. I think Huckabee makes George W. Bush and Dan Quayle look like supergeniuses.

If Huckabee joined the Democratic party, I'd leave.

Only Chaffee, because he is at real risk of losing due to his association with the Southern Religious Party.

Haha. There's no way the Greens will accept him. Look at his actual record as govenor. It's not even close to being far left.

And for obvious reasons , no serious politician will ever become a Green (more directed at Frodo). What would be the point of them joining that utter joke of  a party?

Frodo is a troll who is trying to drive Democrats out of the party.  He wants Feingold out, but Huckabee in? What a moron.

Agreed.  The only elected officials who should switch parties are the good ones that would have a much better chance of sticking around if they switched.  And as of now, that's probably only Chafee.

Oh, and Mike Bloomberg, if he runs for president.

I have to disagree on Schweitzer -- he seems to be economically centrist, socially left-of-centre.  He's certainly not too conservative to be a Democrat.  He just governs in a very non-partisan way.

Gov. Dave Freudenthal (R-WY), on the other hand, is a candidate for going indy or even Republican.

Even though Byrd was a big Clinton supporter, Thats why Sean Hannity calls Bill Clinton a hypocrit for having Byrd as his mentor, compare his stances to Ross Perot's.

Interesting that so many folks have Rep. Ron Paul switching to the Constitution Party since he was the 1988 Presidential nominee of the Libertarian Party.
