This makes sense. Wasn't 1996 the first election in which the presidential candidates of the two major parties had their own campaign websites? Bob Dole's website from that year is still operational. And Dole obviously lost to Bill Clinton, while 2000, 2008, and 2016 were non-incumbent elections.

Not terribly surprising.  Websites existed in 1992 but they weren't remotely mainstream yet.

Bill Clinton had a primitive website in 1992, so this statement is inaccurate. Not surprising considering the original poster.
