A big but not unexpected MN Senate retirement,  Sen. Dave Senjem, R-Rochester, former majority leader. Senjem really drew the short straw in redistricting going from a Biden +5 district to a Biden +21 district. DFL Rep Liz Bolden is running for this seat. Sure pickup for Democrats.
I mean that was kind of inevitable though. Did anyone seriously expect that there wouldn't be a solid D seat based in Rochester after redistricting?

MN GOP convention starting this morning (afternoon?) if they can get everybody registered. Was supposed to gavel in a half hour ago but there are still long lines trying to register.

In news former Hennepin County Sherriff Rick Stanek has dropped out of the MN Gov endorsement battle and strongly suggested he will enter the primary regardless. Stanek was injured in an auto accident a few weeks back and has been off the campaign trail. He, along with all the other major contenders, had previously said he would abide the endorsement.

Attorney Ryan Wilson was endorsed as the GOP candidate for Auditor. He was unapposed.

Stop the steal nut job Kim Crocket was endorsed on the 2nd ballot over fellow wacko Kelly Jahner-Byrne for SOS.

AG up next with 4 candidates seeking the nomination (a 5th is going directly to the primary).

60% needed. On to next ballot.

BTW Wardlow is literally Mike Lindell's lawyer. He also lost to Keith Ellison in 2018.

Upset brewing for the AG endorsement. Wardlow was considered the favorite going in. Schultz should wrap it up next ballot. Don't know much about him but he has to be a better GE candidate than Wardlow.

Former member of the White House Counsel team under Trump (for less than a year.) So basically just like Wardlow he has toxic ties, Wardlow to anti-LGBT groups and him to the Trump Administration. Probably still a less weak candidate than Wardlow though.

Also seems a bit odd we're getting endorsements on a Friday...are the Republicans not having a 3-day convention? If they are and they're doing the endorsements first then what exactly do they do the next two days?

They supposedly have to be done by 6:00 tomorrow because of their lease.  The plan is to do all endorsements but Governor today and the Governor tomorrow. It's possible the may start the Gov race tonight.

LOL. Reminds me of how they almost got evicted from their HQ because they couldn't afford the rent

Although honestly I actually wish the DFL was doing the same this year, especially as I may leave early Sunday to be back in the Twin Cities by 5.

And it's over. Wardlow withdraws. There will be a primary though as Dennis Smith skipped the convention and went straight to the primary.

I wouldn’t be super pumped if I was Keith Ellison tbh. He won because of a blue wave year and Wardlow was his opponent. Neither of those two will be factors this time through

Always thought Ellison going down was the most likely way Dems MN statewide winning streak ends. Still the Derrick Chauvin conviction plus whoever the Republicans choose being very pro life in a blue state in the the year Roe goes down gives Ellison a relatively good shot IMHO.

Of course those abuse allegations completely evaporated and he now has a record to run on including convicting Derek Chauvin instead of the scaremongering stuff from his House career.

Balloting for Governor will begin shortly. Candidates have been giving speeches and they are all freaking nuts. A couple examples, former senator Scott Jenson who is considered the frontrunner wants to jail MN SOS Steve Simon (D). Mike Murphy claims Ilhan Omar did really win her election in 2020 (she won by 39 points).
