In summary, Youngkin ran an excellent campaign while McAuliffe ran an awful one. Dems cannot control the narrative for the life of them... BTW I fully believe if the Dem party in Loudoun had their sh**t together TMAC would have won bc this CRT/anti-trans narrative wouldn't have spun out of control...

If this was just about campaign quality, then why are downballot R's doing close to as well as Youngkin?

Hint: It's because the entire democratic party and Joe Biden is unpopular because of inflation, Afghanistan, COVID, not getting anything done in Washington, and generally extreme social stances.
If split ticket balloting is dead it explains it, agreed on covid, not getting anything passed and the economy hurting dems.

I REALLY doubt anyone swapped their vote over Afghansitan for the VA races

She’s out of touch too. There’s also too much out of touch “progressives”. Dems need to give up on CRT, Latinx, affirmative action, and ease the rhetoric on gender

I'm not sure how Democrats as a whole have taken up CRT. The first time I ever heard about it was when Republicans started bombarding school board meetings.

This. It is completely manufactured.

This means nothing for further elections and I fully expect Biden to carry Virginia in 2024

The fact that this was so close shows how  far the state trended Dem.

Tmac was running campaign malpractice

How does the VA state house election look?  I assume GOP should recapture the majority.

No better way for Youngkin to win than seeing Loudoun and Fairfax crown him. Dems need to stay away from the aggressive CRT messaging and embrace something more inclusive and appropriate for middle and high school kids. Could also see Asian parents (like 20% of the demographic here) revolting against making Thomas Jefferson, probably the best high school in the country academically, lottery based as opposed to merit centered. Although it’s pretty laughable to think a more leftist candidate would win VA at all; I could see the Republican winning Loudoun  and cracking 40% in Fairfax at that point. Abandoning the suburbanites would be a huge mistake because I can safely say the WWC is not going to come back if we leave the party.

Which Democrat was using this messaging? This was all Republicans pushing an issue that is non-existent. Once again, there isn't one school district teaching critical race theory. It is an ELECTIVE COLLEGE LEVEL COURSE, not a K-12 class.

What Democrats need to do is get in on the misinformation game themselves. You can't fight fire without using some fire of your own.

At least it looks like Danica Roem will keep her seat. Small, small victories.

Democrats deserved this L. Democrats are useless and pathetic. I'm so fed up with the party.

If it wasn't for my mother pressuring me to vote today, I wouldn't have voted in the NYC Mayoral election. I'm done with the Democratic Party. Just sick and tired of these useless politicians.

Yeah Kentucky 2019 was about Bevin being an idiot, and the Lousiana Governor election was just JBE being a good incumbent. The entire ticket is winning here.
Kentucky is much more red than these states are blue, if we look at the AG and SOC races in those states they showed similar levels of overperofmance to the VA repubclains here.

The national environment will certainly be better for Democrats next year, as the economy improves and as the issues with the supply chain get sorted out. The problem is, that only means better than 12 points worse than they did in 2020. They have a LOT of work to do to win back what they've lost.

EDIT: Also as they get more done.

Youngkin has to be considered favored by now. But it's definitely not over, not yet.
If Wasserman calls it.. it's over.

To think that I was promoting his County level benchmarks in the absence of any Atlas posters on this thread providing their own.

BTW--- like your sig!

Democrats lost because the country is sick of covid restrictions, inflation and rising gas prices.

Virginia has no covid restrictions and last time I checked, "the country" is not voting in Virginia.

Well not only is Youngkin most likely going to win, but unlike in California the votes to impeach them are not there.

The only solace in this is that the Virginia Democratic Party will soon die and allow for the Green/Liberation movement to grow as it has in West Virginia and more recently Ohio.

Please point me to the Democratic Party's "aggressive CRT messaging." I'd love to see it.

The message from this election is that Republicans win more easily without Trump involving himself in their campaigns.

Youngkin is at least favored at this stage. Fairfax really isn't in yet.

No one here but Woodbury  believes that they stole 2020.
