Yeah, especially that Youngkin actually says it out loud. All Republican governors including DeSantis and a large majority of elected officials know that the vaccines are effective and perfectly safe. It's just that some have decided to make it political issue because they think it benefits them.

Virginia attorney general moves to withdraw from ERA lawsuit

Quote
Republican Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares moved Friday to withdraw the state from a lawsuit that seeks to force the federal government to recognize Virginia's 2020 vote to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and add the text to the Constitution.

In a court filing, Miyares asked that the commonwealth be dismissed as a party to the lawsuit, which was initiated by his Democratic predecessor and is currently on appeal before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Miyares, who took office Jan. 15, has reconsidered Virginia's position and is of the view that a district court previously correctly dismissed the suit, the filing said.

Former Attorney General Mark Herring and two other Democratic attorneys general initially brought the lawsuit in January 2020, days after Virginia’s legislature voted to make the Commonwealth the critical 38th state to ratify the amendment. The vote came after years of efforts by advocates who argued the amendment would guarantee women equal rights under the law. Miyares, then a member of the House of Delegates, voted against ratification.

? He didn't outrun Biden anywhere. He trailed Biden the least in SW Virginia, where there was arguably the least room to decrease.

Do you have a map of 2020->2021 top of the ticket swing in VA?

Wat. There were actually *rural* areas where McAuliffe did better than Biden?

McAuliffe (2021) did worse than Biden in pretty much every municipality in the state.  There was substantial variation in how much worse, with the largest drop-offs I believe in Hampton Roads, rural Southside, and DC exurbs (not Loudoun/Prince William, but one ring of counties further out).

It is true that some of the areas where McAuliffe (2021) fell off the least from Biden were in SWVA, but keep in mind both were in the teens in those counties.   McAuliffe also held up really well in Arlington, where Trump was in the high teens and Youngkin in the low 20's.

This does not mean he's terribly unpopular and should not be exaggerated.  Youngkin is substantially more popular on net than Biden.  If this approval held until late 2023, it's probably enough for Dems to narrowly deny him a trifecta, but -2 net is really pretty good for an R in VA and suggests he continues to be viewed in a different light from Trump.

That's fair.  If this is a honeymoon effect and it erodes to -12 by this time next year, very different story.

I hold more ill will towards miyares rather than Trumpkin.

Trumpkin is kind of a mixed bag. Not exactly the worst imo.

Yeah, I mean, it's not catastrophic, but it's still pretty bad lol. Didn't he have a +20 favorable rating after winning the election? Nose diving to a 41% after only a month into your term isn't good at all no matter how you spin it.

Yeah, Youngkin having a -2% approval already, and his approval being barely over 40% just a few months into his admin is just terrible. Shows that this is clearly not what Virginia at large really wanted
