After posting, I was thinking that that might imply the paper is a bit older than the recent DeKalb vote update, which would mean 13k left, which lines up with number of early in-person they reported, but they should still have around 12k mail left to count as well.

Fair enough, but they weren't running against the same candidate. It seems analysts default to complementing/criticizing Democrats without assigning Republicans equal responsibility for winning/losing their races. And I don't think they're substantively different on policy. Either way, they both performed quite well and complemented each others' strengths.
