Has been my top 2024 pick since his 2016 RNC speech.  Discuss!

Someone going to the Presidency from a Senate seat in a state with six electoral votes. The only part of Arkansas  that isn't a joke to the rest of America is the Bentonville-Springdale-Fayetteville corner of the state. Other Arkansas cities are cesspools of crime, poverty, and other bad measures of social conditions. Sure, Bill Clinton came from Arkansas when the state had some progressive tendencies as it seemed to be modernizing rapidly, but that is over. I can't see what Tom Cotton has done for Arkansas unless perhaps to get some highway funds...

You don't want your state's biggest city to be like Little Rock. Even if the state's giant urban cesspool is Baltimore, Detroit, Hartford, Milwaukee, Newark, or St. Louis you want it to recover some lost good times and not become Little Rock, which has never had a good time in its history. Tom Cotton would have a tough time relating to middle-class suburbanites, let alone any ethnic minority. Ideologically he is about the same as Trump, but more bland. If you are going to be a Senator or Governor from a small state that has an unglamorous reputation, then you had better be brilliant and ebullient. That is Bill Clinton -- not Tom Cotton.

Cotton is too neoconservative for the GOP.

This. If you don't want to go back to neocons, don't look here. He lacks the tell-tale traits of many a reasonableTM Republican but he's probably significantly more hawkish than the average GOP Senator and that's saying a lot.

Cotton is both an open fascist (not that that's necessarily an obstacle) and devoid of charisma

GOP voters do better, he's too conservative for 1950s America let alone the 2020s.

I wonder if Bill Kristol still supports him today, I don't know

Is anyone taking into consideration that Tom Cotton called for the execution of American citizens, a war crime?

I'd honestly prefer President Hyde-Smith over President Cotton.

I would vote for him in the general election but I don’t think he’ll get the nomination. He’s like Mike Pence. Completely uninspiring, and lacks any formidable vision for the US other than putting us in endless wars under his watch.

On second thought, I think I’ll pass on Tom Cotton.

These threads are way too early and I'm thinking of reminding everyone this existed in 4 years from now just for a good laugh, but I'll play:

Can't put this past the Republican party. There's grumblings that there'
s going to be a woman on the 2024 ticket though

Tom Cotton has no charisma and while his politics completely fits trumps base, he doesn't have the "own the libs" energy required to activate them.

Do you think trump voters are going to vote for this guy?

No, it's gonna be Ted Cruz, he was the next in line Rs aren't gonna win this race, but they need to appeal to Latinos that are white males.

should I mention that his visits to NH (from what I've heard) have been duds and the people I know who went left with very little impressions. He's coming back soon but I doubt he suddenly becomes some charisma machine. If we go for a young conservative senator it should be Rubio or Hawley or someone.

That “next in line” thing didn’t work out so well for Rick Santorum.

Tom Cotton is psychotic. He would be a total disaster, he'd would actually be able to get the crazy s*** done that Trump tried to pass.

I can remember a time shortly after his election when he had a moment in the sun and was described as a rising star, and I think he would like to run for President at some point, but we've been able to see him in action for six years, and what we've seen does not scream future President. As others have mentioned, he has no charm whatsoever, is very hawkish, and pushes some of the culture war buttons (send in the troops) a little too far. I can easily see him running, but I fail to see how he would gain any traction. Actually, I'd be genuinely interested to see someone make a case for him winning the nomination or general at this point.
