i wonder if part of the reason that MN is acting differently is that it hasn't had an R trifecta for a long time to disrupt democratic voting blocks?

Also long term the Democrats really should make a play for Mormons if at all possible. Getting Utah to behave like a secular state with the same demographics would make senatorial alignment a bit easier. The same is true to a lesser extent for the plains and mountain west in general, but utah seems like the easiest of those states to lay the groundwork by far
THIS TIMES 10000000000000!
Utah is an urbanized State with a well-educated population and communitarian values.
Democrats need to drop their stance on abortion (or better yet, flip it on the GOP which can easily be done) and run on solely healthcare and environmental issues over the next few years. These two are the winning combo which will deliver a gut punch to the GOP in many states, especially Utah.

Much of Suburbia is legitimately urban now with the same problems that the core cities used to have to themselves: traffic congestion, decaying infrastructure, pollution, poverty, drugs, crime, and struggling schools...

Obviously, there has been a very sizable number of formerly-Republican voters in "typical" suburbs who have moved left.  However, this quoted portion needs to be highlighted again and again when analyzing our current trends, frankly.

Also, it is interesting that ID swung so hard for Trump, more than other states when Biden was expected to be competitive in ID.

McMullin got 6% there 4 years ago. Was his best state after Utah. That swing could just be McMullin voters returning home.

New York Democrats need soul-searching.

They lost the suburbs with the BLM alliance. If I am Steve Bellone, Tim Sini, Madeline Singas or Laura Curran on Suffolk and Nassau County, I must be doing everything possible to stay out of the PBA's way. They control the strings in the suburbs.

Florida Democrats need a deep clean. Deep clean. Florida is Lean R for now.

New Jersey Republicans look extinct, despite Murphy's blunders on nursing homes and motor vehicles delays.

Talking about how "socialism" or "immigration" affected the national Latino vote is typical, overwrought Atlas #analysis.

Let's face it:  at their core, Latino Americans are ethnic Whites Cheesy

The fact that they voted more like ethnic Whites in 2020 may have something to do with how prominently race/BLM were played as issues by the Democrats.  It should be no secret that Black and Latino communities don't....uhm...well...let's just say...see eye to eye with one another on a lot of issues

Never thought you of all posters would use critical race theory logic to explain racial voting patterns. But this is consistent with an exit poll of voters aged 18-29 that had Non-Hispanic Whites at 53-42, Latinos at 75-21, AAPIs at 83-13, and Blacks at 88-9.

(edit: Nov 25 2020 source). Updated numbers are 87-10, 83-15, 72-23 (I think?), and 51-45.

Trump reportedly winning almost one-in-four black male voters. Color me absolutely gobsmacked if that is even close to true.

I'm equally amazed at the widespread defection of tejanos to support Trump, even more than blacks considering this is a guy who made his political bones railing against Hispanics under the rubric of illegal immigration.

D's take AA and Latinos for granted, the same media consultants that work for polling like Nate Silver gets the same jobs from D white collar jobs.

AA are for the first time taking a stand against this, they won't be told how to vote anymore

I love progressives on my feed trying to make excuses for people from marginalized groups voting conservative. Progressives tend to assume that "all good, right-thinking people" will *of course* support their views when there are plenty of such people who do not.

I learned a long time ago literally every ideology does this, so for me at least it's no surprise. Remember how shocked we all were in 2016 that people didn't automatically line up behind Hillary just because she wasn't Trump?
