I’m still stunned that apparently the one honest, fair Republican left in the country with real integrity and backbone is the Secretary of State of Georgia.

2020 just keeps on giving.

I don’t see why Fox and AP still haven’t called it regardless. It’s annoying me slightly because I want to see blue Georgia on the Wikipedia map.

Donald Trump is a fascist and the people who are supporting his attempts to undermine this election are traitors to the United States.

The main issue is that the GOP at all level from local, to state to national are outwardly anti-democratic and have open and public disdain for the democratic process. They have increasing disdain for the cities and city-centered government. The next Trump to come along if he or she ascends power will never let that power go. Republican legislators will gerrymander and disenfranchise en masse. There's no need for an active militia as law enforcement is so far gone in the USA, they will be a branch of that government subjugation. If states or cities rebel, federal government will intervene to quash them. Resistance will be considered unpatriotic.

Half the country will watch what's left of the news, the other half will watch the crafted fiction.

So crush it now. There's no other opportunity.

I mean we basically already know them, aside from those two big undercounts no other county had a more than 10 vote discrepancy.

Has Raffensperger just lost his 2022 primary?

It’s  probably a good thing that they are releasing and certifying on the same day. It kind of sucks, but what are you supposed to do?

Apparently the judge was a Trump appointee and Federalist Society member.

I don't think anyone should be too worried about what happens if somehow this does go to SCOTUS. I bet even Barrett rules against him.

My real concern right now is the dangerous precedent the actions of Trump and the GOP is setting for the future. Increasingly we only have one political party that is actually "democratic" in any sense of the word. That should not be good no matter what your ideology is.

It's rather surprising(although it shouldn't be) that the Judiciary is proving to be one of the strongest bulwarks protecting our democratic process.

Yeah, this is basically a beer hall putsch. In other words, it is an incompetent coup, but an attempted coup nonetheless, which makes it very serious. I think we should get through this one (though any doubt at all about that is too much doubt), but the problem is that this continues to degrade democratic norms, and the next time around things may go differently.

Also note that in response to the beer hall putsch, Hitler was tried for treason, but was only imprisoned for a short amount of time (and released early), whereas the maximum penalty for treason in Weimar Germany at the time was death. Perhaps if the maximum penalty been applied, things might have turned out differently.

Over the medium-long term, supporters of democracy need to get organized and prepared, because it appears more and more that the Trumpist version of the GOP really does want civil war, and if things fall apart over the next 10-20-30 years, we could easily get there.

At the minimum, Trump has to be bankrupted and put behind bars for a long time - on what charges, and at the federal or state level, I don't care.

Has Raffensperger just lost his 2022 primary?

At this point, if he ran as an independent or as a Democrat in 2022 I'd support him, and I've never crossed the aisle.

Let's hope we're that lucky.

Steven Grimberg was the judge in case anyone was wondering.

So, fun fact I learned today.

In Georgia, county election boards have 5 members. Apparently, the two republicans on the Fulton County board voted against certification, but the three other members(two democrats and the non affiliated Chair person) voted for certification.

Midwestern states, take notes.

Wisconsin had a non-partisan election board that was dismantled after Walker and his cronies took over in 2011 and replaced with a bipartisan board.

Quote
Former President Barack Obama told MSNBC in an interview Thursday that it has been troubling to watch Republicans defend President Donald Trump's baseless voter fraud claims.

"These are just bald assertions, they have been repeatedly rejected by the courts, and I think I’m, I’m less surprised by Donald Trump doing this, he has shown, you know, only a flimsy relationship with the truth," Obama told MSNBC contributor Jonathan Capehart during a sit-down interview. "I’m more troubled that you’re seeing a lot of Republican officials go along with it, not because they actually believe it, but because they feel intimidated by it."

Why wait?  Let's get an "Indictment of the Week" going.  Start with Donald Jr., move down the line, and cap it off with Trump sometime after January 20.

I wonder if there were more votes added than to the figures on NYT... several blue areas aren't even 90% yet.

Just posted in another thread about how NYTimes/AP estimates for some post-election day counts can be very bad. They have Norfolk at 87% reporting even though they have official results matching the current totals reporting on the NYTimes page.

In almost every election the New York Times stops caring about updating their vote totals.

It's super frustrating that the self-described "newspaper of record" just gives up their counts after the election. With all the time and effort put into the graphics and the date behind them, you'd think they'd carry their work to the finish line and at least have a few staff members working on this 'till all the results are in.
