Texas about to be ground zero for disenfranchisement:

Texas Republicans have asked a federal judge to throw out 100,000 ballots in Harris County cast through curbside voting. They drew Judge Andrew Hanen, one of the most notoriously partisan Republican judges in the entire federal judiciary. This is alarming.

We will never live this down if this happens

This is going all the way to SCOTUS unfortunately. This judge will throw them out, guaranteed.

If SCOTUS refuses to stop it, use it as a rallying cry to pack the courts

A poll worker signs you in, checks your ID, and you vote on the voting machine. Like most Texas voting sites, except outdoors and you don't leave the car.

If this „curb-side voting“ is handled like a regular election precinct/polling station, with an election commission present, and this judge invalidates 100.000 votes, he’ll probably have crosshairs on his body ...

Yeah, that would be excellent justification for packing the courts.

If he has any consistency whatsoever he'd have to rule that a Texas judge cannot overturn the election law of Texas.

The GOP needs to be nuked to the stone ages. If you have to go to these lengths to win elections then there is no reason for you to exist as a party.

Is there also a precinct election commission present at this drive-thru made up of D/R/I members, like in a regular polling station ?

It's a fascist party that is rapidly turning the United States into an authoritarian country. There needs to be mass protests if they do this.

When one party is trying to get more people to vote and the other is trying to get fewer people to vote, it's obvious which one is more representative of the people.

When might we find out the judge’s ruling?

And what happens to those 100,000 voters? Would they get to vote again?

@Trends: If the curbside ballots get thrown out, how much of an impact does that have on your TX predictions? I don't know if I'm overreacting, but this makes me very nervous about Biden's chances of flipping it. More than anything else that's been going on there

I think Biden could sustain it, but it gets a lot iffier.

They don't even try to appeal to the voters anymore. The GOP is intellectual bankrupt, they have nothing to sale to the majority of voters. They lost the culture wars and tax cuts for rich people aren't popular. So stacking the courts and throwing out ballots is the only way they can remain in power. It is not just dangerous, but extremely pathetic.

On the "brightside", Hanen isn't a Trump appointee. He's incredibly anti-immigration, but I'm not sure he's partisan enough to just throw out 100,000 ballots.

AL and MS have no in person early voting and have pretty strict absentee rules (though AL seems stricter). Only if you’ll be absent on Election Day, if you’re sick, disabled, a senior, basically.

This plus here in MS you could give reasons such as work and being away from home on E-Day. I was thinking about doing that but I've ultimately decided to wait until election day.

My limited and anecdotal experience suggests that the Courthouse employees don't really care about their job and will probably give anyone an absentee ballot who asks for one without asking for an excuse and verifying it's a sufficient one.

Fwiw, my parents voted absentee last week (my mom's done it before though) and it seems that what you've said about the employees not verifying excuses is pretty much accurate considering what I was told happened when they voted.

Just a completely evil and irredeemable party. There is 0 changing or moderating it, no epiphany that is gonna come. If you don’t want to live in an autocratic hell scape, the Republican Party needs to be destroyed with the ground it was built on salted.
