Today I had my first-ever oral argument in front of a panel of "judges" (other law students). It went swimmingly. Spoke clearly and slowly, maintained eye contact, and did a good job refuting the prosecution's points. Now I have to come to terms with the fact that I won't be doing anything that fun for the rest of the semester.

Not to give the advice you see on every admissions forum, but retake & reapply? This is not a time when I'd want to go in w/ no financial assurances from the school.

It's far from unreasonable that I could pick up a job in the area and go part-time, and try for funding at a later date. To get to just the master's degree may itself be a worthwhile goal, given the location of the school and the opportunities it would offer. But I don't know that I'd be willing to do so.

The PhD program application process is pretty painful--at least for me--and after my most recent submission in January I felt fairly sure that, either way, this would be the last time I went through it (if not ever, then at least for a while).
