Barnes is a socialist. Zero chance he wins.

Wisconsin is a purple state, but it doesn't elect moderates. I think that Barnes will have a good shot of flipping the seat.

It’s weird that the WFP endorsing him is what makes you think he’s a socialist

I can’t find significant baggie on Barnes. He probably helps turn-out black people in Milwaukee.
I’m not a progressive but you can’t deny that he’s a good candidate

Any chance that David Clarke (the Milwaukee sheriff) could run in the republican primary? That'd be interesting to see.

I don’t think so, unless he makes some significant headlines

Boosting MKE turnout is great - voters here can be hard to turn out and having them sit at home tilts any race towards Rs.

I think Dane+surroundings and rurals are going to turn out no matter what. I'm curious to see what (1) swing voters in Kenosha do in a Barnes-Johnson race and (2) how much WOW (or I guess just WO) continues trending. Seems like a Milwaukee candidate (or an "urban" candidate) won't play well in either of those areas although WOW seems to be slowly falling in line with suburbs nationwide.

What’s a “socialist”? Since Republicans have referred to Obama, Sanders, Pelosi, Biden, and others as “socialists”, I’m trying to figure out the common denominator, other than having (D) next to one’s name.

I'll give you another hint: even Mitt Romney was labeled a socialist when he spoke favorably about the concept of UBI.

Team RonJon put out an anti Barnes fundraising email.

Is that a sign that Johnson is (probably) running again?

Barnes is still a relative unknown, the fundamentals of this race are unchanged: Johnson is a slight favorite if he runs, it is a toss-up if he doesn't. The key will be keeping liberal turnout high in Madison metro in an off-cycle year and managing at least 45% in the Driftless Area counties which flipped.

I think it’s Kind>Godlewski>Barnes.

Ideally Ron Kind would be the nominee, as he would play better in the Driftless and WOW. Barnes said some pretty harsh stuff with Kenosha about police and that would certainly fire up the GOP base. He also has had scandals of unpaid property taxes on his condo in Milwaukee. He also may have lied about his college degree, and has divided the black community in Milwaukee by primarying other black elected officials.

Mandel Barnes has a similar name to Nelson Mandela will be the next Senator, because of Johnson gaffes
