Of the four seats that are up this year, three also have a Libertarian on the ballot, so I think the most likely path to victory would be for the Democrats to win one of those seats with <50% of the vote and a Libertarian playing the spoiler.

Chief Justice Nathan Hecht is actually running campaign ads (which I can't recall him ever doing) so he may have reason to be concerned. In the most recent filings, Hecht had $727K cash on hand compared to $132K for his opponent Amy Clark Meachum.

The Texas SC is kind of weird in that it only hears civil cases. We have a separate Court of Criminal Appeals that is basically a second supreme court just for criminal cases. There are three seats on the CCA up this year but all only have Democrats and Republicans running, which would likely make it harder for a Democrat to break through.
