These people are asking for a civil war. They may very well get it.

Republican Senator Proposes Bill That Would Make It Illegal to Count Votes

Quote
Scott’s proposal is simple and entirely unworkable. His Help America Vote Act of 2020 would require that mail-in ballots be counted within 24 hours of when voting closes on Election Day.

Scott’s proposed legislation would also prevent mail-in ballots received prior to Election Day from being processed and counted until the morning of Nov. 3, contradicting state election statutes across the country including one that he signed when he was governor of Florida. Basically, the bill would move back the date by which votes can start to be counted and move up the date by which the count must end. This would limit the count to a single less-than-48-hour window, shortening the count in some cases by weeks.

In Scott’s own home state of Florida, as one example, votes can start to be counted up to 22 days before Election Day. In Colorado, which does all mail-in voting, they can be processed as soon as they are received and counted 15 days before Election Day. Under Scott’s law, those votes would all have to begin to be counted on Election Day itself. Any votes that did not get counted simply would not count.

Luckily Pelosi would never go for it. Trump could try to make this an executive order, but it would probably not end well for him.

Isn't this a matter of state law? I doubt the federal government can rule in which votes have to be counted at which specific time. But it's kind of hilarious the "States rights GOP" all of a sudden tries to get the federal govt involved when it suits their cult leader.

Calling this the Help America Vote Act should be an impeachable offense. Damn, these people truly belong in jail.

Fairly typical for a Republican:

Quote

Scott’s proposed legislation would also prevent mail-in ballots received prior to Election Day from being processed and counted until the morning of Nov. 3

Typical as in, shows utter disregard for the idea of democracy and knowingly makes unrealistic demands, because that's the point.

If you want to know the result on election night, then you need to allow & fund a massive expansion of workers and equipment to process all those ballots, and allow at least some pre-processing many days ahead of time, not only to prepare but to allow clerks to contact voters who have ballots with signature or other issues. And this is assuming we're going to force states to throw out all late-arriving (but postmarked by e-day) ballots.

Simply put, Republicans, if you want to know the results sooner, stop being so stingy with funding and unreasonably strict with the processing rules.

Yeah, but I thought Trump was the only problem with the Republican Party and that once he's gone, everything will be back to normal and great again, and the other Republicans (who are totally good people, "concerned" about Trump, only supporting him out of fear, and ready to abandon Trumpism as soon as Trump is out) will want to "get along" with Democrats, just like the good old days! (so long as they're "nice moderates" like Biden, and not "mean sOcIaLiSts" like Sanders.)

We've already seen Trumpism without Trump. It's exactly what the Republican Party was during Obama's Presidency. The only difference now is that they say the quiet part (which was already implied by their actions) out loud without shame.

It's his home state, it's a must-win for Trump, but it's close: and the 2024 Floridian prospects are having a public jostle to be 'not it' in the event that Trump loses Florida.

Trump losing the state and blaming DeSantis would torpedo his '24 chances early. Likewise with Scott - though in his case this is less about avoiding blame, and more currying favor.

Rubio, who is also in the mix, has mostly gone quiet. If he runs again, and I don't think it's all that likely, it won't be as a Trump successor.

It's in DeSantis' best interest for Trump to win Florida, but lose overall.

Florida really elected a criminal who stole $2 billion from Medicare Governor twice and then gave him a promotion to U.S. Senator.

White Republicans get away with murder.

DeSantis's 2024 hopes likely hinge on whether or not he wins a second term.

This, plus the fact he's proposing it this close to the election shows it's just a publicity stunt, like all of Trump's recent executive orders that actually don't do anything.
