How kind and considerate of Republicans to hand us yet another governor's mansion:

Indicted Ky. governor will seek 2nd term

By JOE BIESK
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Gov. Ernie Fletcher said he will complete his first term and seek a second one despite an indictment on misdemeanor charges that accuse him of illegally rewarding political supporters with state jobs.

The embattled GOP governor was charged Thursday with conspiracy, official misconduct and violating a prohibition against political discrimination. A conviction could lead to jail time and his removal from office, according to the attorney general's office.

On Friday, Fletcher urged cabinet secretaries not to let his legal troubles distract them from their work.

"We cannot allow these sorts of actions to harm our efforts to move the state forward," he said.

Then it logically follows that you should regard Jim Trafficant as a 'freedom-fighter' as well.

Well, there's no doubt that Fletcher is fighting for freedom; his own freedom to stay out of prison.

What he did shouldn't be illegal. Another victim of the witchhunt goes down.

Also, what are the chances someone runs against Fletcher in the GOP primary? Probably quite high considering his background and the baggage he would carry into the election.

Should Fletcher be convicted wouldn't that debar him from seeking a second term as governor?

If the Democrats in KY nominate a candidate that doesn't like gay people and can tie his shoes, the race in 2007 shouldn't even be competitive?

How's Mongiardo doing?  Is he married yet?  The rumors about him being a gay likely cost him the race against Bunning.

Kentucky has their gubernatorial race on an "off" year, or 2007.
