Glad to see they're focusing on the really pressing issues facing the country.

From the article (in the OP):

Quote
Democrats, though, are already privately warning that they could retaliate against McCarthy, potentially with a censure motion, formal reprimand, or even an ethics complaint. Doing so would set off a partisan food fight among House leaders even as the country suffers through the worst health and economic problems in a century.

I think the problem lies in the fact that too many American voters are themselves intensely partisan and would get delinquent delight in watching the "food fight."

The Freedom Caucus is engaged in performative nonsense to demonstrate their willingness to humiliate the Republican House leader when it inevitable fails? Wow I've definitely never seen that before.

Come to think of it, running against Pelosi didn't work at all in 2018, largely because swing voters don't know or care about her.

Rs have the worst leader in Trump and Rs retired in 2018, due to fact Speaker Ryan wasnt their Leader. Pelosi is a bad leader, she campaigns for Joe Kennedy and the Tenderloin district has the worst homeless rate in the country. But, not as bad as Trump. Pelosi cares more about fundraising, than homelessness.  That's why facebook took her ad down after Covid, asking for donations

Despite what the media might have you believe, Pelosi is more popular than every Republican congressional leader the past decade.

McCarthy isn't enough of a firebrand asshole.  Freedom Caucus wants him gone so they can make Jim Jordan the minority leader.  This ludicrous plan to make him look weak is just the start.

This shows their efforts to use her as a scare tactic aren't working anymore, so they need to find somebody else who is.

Perhaps this.

I am certainly hoping for a Republican-controlled House in 2021.  (I haven't always hoped for that, but I do this year.)  I don't see the point in getting involved in what would essentially be a Democratic Party power struggle from a Republican point of view.  There is also no other Democrat that the GOP could join with to elect as Speaker that would help them.  It would be considered a political stunt that would backfire.

I'm a Trump partisan.  I make no bones about it this year.  I wish to see Trump re-elected and I view Trump's re-election as important for the well-being of the nation.  In that context, this sort of political game is not helpful.  It distracts from the re-election of Trump, and doing that detracts from the chances of GOP candidates being able to oust Democratic incumbents or prevail in open seats.
