This is the 1976 Map if you take away the states either Ford and Carter won by less than 5

Less than 5 Points:



Carter 144
Ford 95
States within 5 points 299

What's up with South Dakota? Pretending Carter is McGovern?

That might actually be it. Residual guilt over not picking McGovern against Nixon four years earlier, perhaps.
