Hawkeye and I

I have been at this forum for more than two years now. I have shown the greatest respect to everyone and have trusted what everyone has said about themselves 100% of the time. I believed Tweed was 30 and that opebo wants a $15 minimum wage, call me gullible, I call it trustworthy. I expect that through my mutual trust of the members of this forum I myself would be trusted. However, as I am constantly reminded, those who bask in politics are not expected to be fair. Gustaf is a guy I have never wronged, he is actually one of my favorite people on the forum because he keeps a level head and always conducts himself in a respectable manner. I respect him because he is much like I, a person who isn’t a cynic, but he decided to post this:

PB, I'm sorry, but this whole thing about your brother is too fishy for me, and, sad as it is, it's made me lose my trust in you. That's one vote you lost.

Forgive me for the language, but what in the hell does this mean? How can anyone accuse myself, honest PBrunsel who is always recorded as the most trusted member of the forum, of lying? It is sickening and wrong. I’ll admit my brother is rude and has wild beliefs. I’ll also admit that he can be a very angry fellow, and he is leaving the forum once again at my request. I apologize to all he has personally insulted, and you know I would never act that way.

What would I have to gain by acting like Hawkeye? A few silly reasons:

1. You could act up and no one would suspect you and attack the character of PBrunsel. When it comes down to it that might be a sweet deal because people pay attention to Hawkeye, they ignore PBrunsel. Everyone of Hawkeye’s posts for the month of March received a reply, two of my own did. So there could be some positives to being a loud and obnoxious fellow, but not enough for me to make a fake account. I like the forum too much to act like a jerk to everyone simply to get attention, I leave that crap up to the likes of opebo.

2. You made Hawkeye so you could win more votes in Fantasy Elections! Well I'm currently in a run-off election, so I must really suck at making fake voters.

Those are the only two reasons I could think of for making a fake account, and neither is worth the trouble. I stand here today as a man falsely accused of a crime I have not committed, and that is called slander my friends. After building a record of honesty for two years I would have expected more out of most of you.

I do trust you as a member, but I really have difficulties buying that this is what Hawkeye is actually like, which you have said.  I have just never seen someone who is so literate make such absurd, logically unsound arguments, or obviously intentionally bad insults before.  I've seen a lot of people fake their personalities online, and Hawkeye screams fake in every single way.

I really do think you have a great record for being truthful, but everything about Hawkeye just seems wrong.

I think the main thing that bothers some forum members is how both outrageously extreme and contradictory Hawkeye's positions are.  For example, in one post he'll talk about how he hates government and whatever, and in the next post he'll talk about how he wants the government to ban alcohol, pornography, and everything else that he disapproves of.  A lot of people probably feel that he cannot possibly be real, or at the very least, would like to think that he isn't real.

I'm not saying that this is what I think, or that I think you made up Hawkeye; I'm just saying that this is what some people feel, which has led to things like what Gustaf said.  A lot of people would like some sort of proof that Hawkeye is actually real.

I think option #2 is correct.  Maybe Gustaf thought all Americans are like Hawkeye but found out we weren't by joining this forum... but now that he knows Hawkeye, he feels his worst fears have been realized, but he doesn't want to acknowledge it or something.

I'd like to also register that I think PB is telling the truth, along with that I'd like to acknowledge my gratefulness that my brother is only a PB-style conservative (BTW, PB, when is the national debate tournament you're going to?)

I see what they mean by things not quite adding up, but I see posters like Hawkeye all over the internet. To me, he is the definitive troll. I don't believe someone (PB)who has such a reputation could make such a 180.

My brother is a man of many contradicitions, he can not be pin pointed. How do I know, why I have lived in the same house with him for 18-years. I probaly know him better than you BRTD seeing how I actualy know him.

Is Hawkeye a fake poster or are his positions fake. Given PB's assurance, I believe he is indeed real. I also believe that here, his positions are not that real. He is not sharing what he truly believes.- at lerast part of the time. He strives to get a rise out of someone and posts more with that goal in mind than actually building a consistent creed. That is a troll. Just my guess.

Either everyone believes you or they don't believe you. If you want a positive way of looking at things, now you have an easy way of finding out who your friends are.

Hawkeye always struck me as more of a trogladyte than  a troll.

In any case, PBrunsel is his own person and not responsible  for the actions of his brother.

(I know full well.  My father is a raving liberal with a number of seemingly contrary  opinions and a knee-jerk reaction to politics.  I've generally found it easier  to group  people by thier willingness to consider other opinions and overall rationallity/sanity, rather than the old left/right axis.
