The better comparison would be the Obama-Biden administration rescue of the auto industry during the Great Recession.  The same can be done for the local newspaper industry, and by a man with a better record than the current administration.

That should go well with his advice to parents to leave a record player on.

Saving local newspapers is a worthwhile goal but I am somewhat skeptical it could work in practice.

Local news just needs to get with the times.

The days of going to the donut shop in the morning, picking up the local paper, and flipping through it while you drink your coffee are over.

But I check my local Seattle news online every day as part of my morning news feed.

Local newspapers are less important to democracy than Mazlowe's hierarchy of needs or the threats posed by climate change, among other national issues. For the federal government (let alone local government), they're a long way down a fairly massive list of priorities.

A priority should be breaking up media monopolies.

That should apply to not only TV and radio but newspapers and websites too.
