For me I've gotten a lot more worried that Trump really doesn't care a whit for American institutions and his Party is willing to follow him off the cliff. If he wins again we'll see increasingly less free and fair elections in the future, following the world trend.

You didn't reach this conclusion 4-5 years ago?

Anyway, I'll say that my opinion is unchanged, because nothing surprises me about the Republican Party at this point, and I don't think I could have a lower opinion.

No, I thought it was all hyperbole. Liberals make up a lot of hyperbole about Trump.

The idea that democratic norms are really eroding and that there is a trend towards substantive degradation of representative democracy as a conclusion to be reached by sober thought is not a conclusion one comes to easily.

Down a lot. You'd be laughed out the room even 4 years ago if you'd say they'd embrace full-throat the things they've been embracing- a rich couple aiming guns at black people that could've easily accidentally fired because they were holding them wrong, a teen coming with a gun to an area where black people and allies are protesting police brutality and murdering several people, people like Charlie Kirk speaking in the RNC. This has all been widely embraced by Republicans, but crazy conspiracy theories like QAnon are increasingly gaining legitimacy too.

While it certainly hasn't gone up, I'm not sure if it's possible to decline further at this point either. I mean I was always aware that Trump is gonna be a total disaster during a major crisis, he was barely keeping his sh**t together during normal times.

Well, some of us did see all of this coming years ago. Just saying.

I don't think it has changed meaningfully. I tend not to have great opinions of political parties anyway.

Gone down. The GOP has gone beyond the point of no return. They have completely abandoned a platform and is now 100% the cult of Trump. Also, far too many Republican voters have embraced the Qanon conspiracy garbage and now some of those lunatics are going to be in Congress next year.

You say that, and yes, four years ago it was already clear that the Republicans were already perfectly happy to undermine the functioning of democracy to suit their needs. But at the same time, I would have figured that the institutions of American democracy and the American state were strong enough that they would be able to clear off any real threat.

Now, the Republicans are increasingly transparent about how much they disdain free and fair elections; and its not so clear that the America's democratic institutions are able to resist. Which is a little bit more frightening in that respect.

My opinion was already very negative, as it had been for a while, but it still managed to go down over the summer.

My opinion of the GOP has been negative since I've been politically aware (The Bush 43 years). That said, this is no longer a Republican Party, nor is it a conservative party. It's a reactionary, cult of Trump and I question whether our country can survive so long as it exists.

Gone down as a result of the “law and order” rhetoric.

Gone down a lot, watched around an hour of the first day of the RNC and was utterly disgusted by what I saw, and I don't plan on watching much more.

Slight decrease.
My opinion of the Republican Party sank in Spring, I expect a dead cat bounce this fall.
