Option 1: the tenets of fiscal conservatism (reigning in spending, balanced budgets, reducing deficits, & avoiding deficit spending) aren't inherently objectionable to me, whereas the tenets that define modern social conservatism (being pro-life, opposed to gender equality, anti-LGBT, pro-school prayer, anti-sex ed) most definitely are.

As someone explained to me elsewhere, the Republican Party is absolutely zero fiscally conservative.

Some fiscal conservatism is actually a good thing because future generations shouldn't inherit tons of debt. The Republican Party isn't even fiscally conservative at all, since the federal government is running trillion dollar deficits under Trump, even before the pandemic. Only two presidents in the last 50 years lowered the deficit: Clinton (D) and Obama (D). The deficits all major countries are accumulating since Covid19 hit actually concern me greatly.

Hate is strong word. I think its mostly coming from a compassionate (albeit misguided) place. But I dislike the democrats social liberalism more - because I think it far more harmful than economic statism.

But I dislike natavists most of all. It used to be a left thing, now it seems to be a right thing. Globalism has been the greatest force for positive change the world has seen.

Both terms are dumb ... people here are unironically holding the GOP's "fiscal conservatism" to the standard of being "fiscally responsible," rather than fiscally right wing.  This type of thinking as akin to people who think "small government" is inherently conservative.

A Republican who cuts taxes, deregulates and then jacks up spending IS a "fiscal conservative" in the modern sense ... because we now use "conservative" to exclusively mean "right wing" in political conversation.

Thing is, "Fiscal Conservatism" at least in name I can understand the theory that it means restricted taxation and spending. That at least makes sense. The principal problem is when people start extending it to cover policies like the relaxing minimum wage laws, or more flexible labour policies or a less stringent regulatory or compliance environment. Those are economic policies but they are not fiscal policies. The terms "Fiscal" means issues related to taxes and government spending, not economic policy as a whole, and that is a real bugbear of mine.

The particular problem the "Fiscal liberalism" has is that it doesn't even make sense as a term. From the moment you apply the term "fiscal" attaching the terms "liberal" to it makes no sense. what is it even supposed to mean? happilly spending without worrying about income? High tax and high spend? Or do we mean it to be the "Fiscal" aspect of a economically liberal policy agenda? Which even in America doesn't mean the same thing as a Liberal's economic agenda

I said I dislike Republicans' social conservative more, but mostly because their current fiscal agenda isn't fiscally conservative at all.

But back to the point, I mostly dislike that one of the major driving forces of the Republican Party today is white racial backlash to the country getting less white.

Social issues. I'd be a Democrat if it weren't for that.

I don't really hate ideology (with a couple of obvious exceptions). I hate, if anything, the basic inability and/or unwillingness to think critically in just about all parties and factions.

The right answer is it depends on the day. Like right now it's social issues but for most of the pre-2020 Trump administration it was economics. It's just whatever's most at the forefront of society, and the top issues in 2019 are so vastly different from the top issues of 2020.

The social conservatism obviously. The fiscal conservatism punishes those who'd vote GOP, so it's not like it's a bad thing.

Wow, a lot of people are really driven by social issues. It’s kinda interesting.

There are people in the Bay Area who would accept the privatization of the postal service and repealing child labor laws as long as it was done with rainbow flags and BLM stickers.

I hate how they're designed to limit the scope of discussion with binary choices that keep the same people in power with occasional cosmetic changes. Now that we're seeing the emergence of a legit homegrown white nationalist movement, I hate how Democrats are acting hysterical over this irrelevant moron rather than attacking the very dangerous ideas he's unaware are riding on his coattails. Trump himself is entertaining and fairly harmless (as harmless as an American politician can be at least)- I'm grateful he hasn't sent me to die in an Iranian/Venezuelan/North Korean/Chinese ditch like a more competent leader would have by now.

Stop the war.

I'm not a huge fan of the concept of "ideology" in general. To me it's just another way to divide unique people by arbitrary means, and adhering to an ideology seems like a chore, as many times there are multiple valid approaches.
