UBI has worked successfully in nations with both populations and GDPs lower than that of New York City.

It's completely plausible under a Mayor Yang.

Aaaaaaaaand he's officially in (leaked filming an announcement commercial). Has been teasing a lot of tweets regarding NYC as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6TIfl1aTAk

Endorsed and I'll be gladly donating/volunteering for him.

Curious what you like about him? A citibank exec who's friends with the Kochs is quite a bit different from the other endorsements you have listed.

Formerly supported and volunteered for Yang's presidential campaign but I just have a bad gut feeling about how he'll transition to a Mayoral position, especially in a city like NYC with so many other people holding power and influence outside of you.

I love some of his ideas, The People's Bank especially, but I find McGuire to be the more pragmatic option. He'll be a corporate capitalist hack, but he'll be doing it in that later DeBlasio-esque way of it having at least a little bit of class consciousness.

It's more of a fear Yang be will ate alive by red tape and the dirty politics of the city.

I feel like this would be the default response of most people but, at least to my eye, the significance here is that we're probably gonna start seeing more of this as we hit the upcoming filing & matching funds deadlines.

Menchaca and the rest of the minor candidates probably don't make it the next couple of weeks.

I see Yang, Adams, Wiley, Stringer, and Morales (she'll finish horribly, but she'll stay in for her intensely loyal Twitter base) making it to the primary day.

Donovan, McGuire, and Garcia have some tough decisions to make however because their presence is really gonna change how RCV goes.

Jabari Brisport (socialist state senator) endorses Morales #1 and Stringer #2.

Hey, that's a pretty good one! Still surprised at her lack of union support though.

Yang joining forces with the most establishment / (relatively) right wing major Manhattan DA candidate. Think he’s clearly positioning himself on the right of the NYC Dems at this point, with some idiosyncrasies.

Not in NYC, but Yang was my second favorite behind Ray McGuire. Now I just like Yang for the meme. This is definitely bad optics, and partnering with Farhadian Weinstein over Orlins or Aboushi will hurt his numbers amongst progressives, who are already flocking to Morales in droves.

Crain's New York is claiming Ray McGuire won a poll, but it's behind a paywall and I can't find crosstabs on it.

Update: Appears to be a name recognition poll amongst Crain's Democratic-voting subscribers. Really a stretch to say he "topped a poll".

It's honestly hilarious watching Wall Street & big business (&, thus, pro-Wall Street & pro-big business outlets) try & push him when it's been blatantly obvious for a while now that he'd be lucky to even get 10% in the primary.

I like him, but, yeah, it's kinda obvious he hasn't landed. I'm surprised a bunch of candidates haven't dropped out yet, honestly. Namely McGuire and Menchaca.

I still hoping beyond hope Menchaca can pull out a little

Morales is getting all of his possible voters, no? Sure he'll get some 3rd/4th place votes, but, that's if he even stays in.

A thread that I generally agreed with the thesis of.

The positivity and energy of Yang's campaign is something that, even his stances on the issues not considered, is helping his campaign out extremely well; and other candidates have to drop the "fixing this broken city" attitude if they want to stand a chance.

Yang giving himself a Biden bad primary debate moment with the shortsighted op-ed and stupid street vendor rules policy. I don't see it shaking up the race, but he's only costing himself votes at this point. Making me a lot more sympathetic to Morales.

Tremendous new poll!

Yang 26
Adams 13
Stringer 11
Wiley 10
Donovan 7
McGuire 6
Garcia 4
Morales 3

Yang 61
Stringer 39

Yang 59
Adams 41

Yang 68
Wiley 32

Yang 73
Donovan 27

I love the McGuire momentum, but yeah, this thing is over.

As I correctly predicted Georgia flipping blue in the 2020 General and both Senate seats, I've predicted the demise of the Morales campaign.

Anyone want some help with other predictions?

Anyways, progressives following the Joshua Collins blueprint will fail 10/10 times. This should come as no surprise.

The Bernie/DSA universe is entering a new low on their rollercoaster of momentum.

Not exactly the case — there is a reason DSA & AOC deliberately chose not to endorse Morales (and there's a reason Our Revolution solo endorsed Wiley). There’s obviously some overlap, but the Morales campaign was (the past tense is, I think, appropriate) fundamentally a left-liberal endeavor led by groups like the Working Families Party and various nonprofit orgs and progressive clubs. DSA & co. have been focused on a handful of City Council candidates. The difference reflects different political strategies and different theories of change — and one, I think, has been borne out more than the other.

And what chance do those City Council candidates stand? This on top of having no true candidate for Mayor of one of the biggest cities in America, losing almost all recognition by the Biden administration, constant collapses by popular candidates (Collins, Morales, etc) and endless infighting (Green Party civil war, Breadtube's inability to go from debate club to tangible political change, The People's Party vs. Green Party dilemma); the BernieBros aren't really up to much good these days outside of interesting Twitter threads and Youtube videos. A major reason why I've felt myself shifting back to the center as of late.

I'd rather support a Democrat or Republican who still disappoints me than the non-existent DemSoc candidate.

I was canvassing for a DSA candidate and a 70 year old West Indian woman told me she appreciated his stances on tenants issues but couldn't vote for him because of Breadtube infighting.

Implying they'd vote for him anyway
