I take it as a given that he's anti-gay marriage, I'm talking about other gay civil rights issues. "Pro-family" is sometimes a euphimism for being anti-gay.

He's against gay marriage but supports civil unions.

I said yes just because it'll be a tad harder for the GOP to pigeonhole Dems as far left, but I'd prefer:

Why Democrats need more pro-growth senators

I think growth is an ill defined term the CATO Institute uses to justify plutocratic policies.  Sure I'm pro-growth as well, but I'm not in favor of taxing unearned income less than earned income or repealing the estate tax.

Well, if you are going to let "institutes" define words for you, you are going to be disappointed. I'm not in favor of repealing the estate tax either, nor am I in favor of higher taxes or lower benefits being the only answer to our social security crisis when private retirement packages are outpacing inflation at an enviable rate.

I'm in favor of an economically and socially libertarian democrat party.

No - it would be meaningless because very few senators are well known nationally. The GOP will still be able to paint the Democratic Party as a "baby-killing party" or some nonsense like that.

If the Democrats want to beat the GOP on the abortion issue, they should respond fervently the GOP"s attacks by pointing out that  a ban on abortions would be unpragmatic while stressing their own attempts to decrease the amount of abortions performed.

Don't care terribly much as long as they have the correct positions on free speech (flag burning, etc.), health care, and Iraq.

I think it's good to have some ideological diversity in our party; however, I'm disappointed with the PA Dems for nominating Casey for two reasons:

1) Casey is conservative on issues other than abortion.

2) It may be necessary to nominate a pro-lifer in some parts of the country (i.e. Ben Nelson in Nebraska), but a pro-choice Dem could have probably beaten Santorum in PA, especially in 2006.

Casey could have convinced people that he was good on every issue but abortion, but no, his dumb-ass decided to support Alito. We need far less fascists in the Senate, so I voted no. Screw Casey.
