So this Machine Gun Kelly guy is like apparently a rapper, and like a Gen Z icon. And his music...actually has some songs that are really good? I mean these f[inks]ing slay.

This is so good I'd say he's my favorite rapper of all time. Meanwhile Kanye's music makes me want to jam nails in my ears. Easy choice.

In the sense that Machine Gun Kelly is as much an icon now as Eminem was twenty years ago?
In which case I'll just say that the "Fortnite Generation" has horrible taste.

In the sense that they both make edgy music for white kids to have an excuse to say that they "listen to rap"

Except Eminem actually made rap whereas Machine Gun Kelly does not?
Maybe it's just me and I don't get how "rap" works in 2020.

Except Eminem's music sucks. And MGK's music above isn't edgy at all, it's no more edgy than say, Neck Deep (that it sounds like.)

Those are pretty standard pop-punk songs, I know of songs by The Wonder Years that are edgier.

Selling pop-punk as rap is the edgy part!

How is that edgy? It's not like there's some quota of rap you must listen to to meet.

I just don't see how "musician from one type of music playing another type of music" is edgy. Unless Taylor Swift is edgy.

It depends on what types of music we are talking about. Pop-punk is 3dgy and I say that as someone who listens to Green Day.
I don't know about Taylor Swift, I know her politics better than her music.
