What if, in 2012, General David Petreaus, instead of joining the Obama Administration as CIA Director, decides to mount an Independent bid for the Presidency?

How would he do?

Who would his running mate be?

Would he take more votes from Obama or Romney?

What would be Petraeus's platform?

That's actually a good question.

I suspect it would be more military issues focused, based on his past as a general, and largely ignore social issues, and the deficit (except when it relates to the military).

I doubt that a military-focused campaign would have gone particularly far in 2012, but who knows. I imagine he would have drawn votes disproportionately from the Republican camp.

We were just coming out of a badly botched war in Iraq, and we were still involved in Afghanistan. It's certainly possible a Military focused campaign could do well.

You are in the right, but I believe it may have been more effective in 2008.

Petreaus was an active general in 2008. There's no way he would have run then.

Well of course. I actually have no idea who might have put up a military-focused campaign in 2008.
