Quote
‘It’s all noise’: The reality behind Trump’s legal fight

The court fight over election results, which has yielded few results, is as much about pleasing the base as it is about making coherent legal arguments.

Before the election, Republicans bragged about an army of lawyers from three major firms lined up to quickly challenge election results in the presidential election.

But now that the big moment has arrived, that army — and those major firms — have not been too visible.

Behind the scenes, much of the legal work has been handled by small conservative firms. And publicly, President Donald Trump has relied on his staunchest political allies — some of whom aren’t even lawyers — to explain why states should toss out ballots or invalidate the results altogether.

There’s a reason for that.

But now, facing "pressure" to overturn the results, he's hedging that statement, saying that's in "normal circumstances"

^^
That's circular reasoning. The circumstances are not "normal" because Trump and the Republicans made them that way. A self-created crisis, so to speak.

It looks like James Lankford is another Republican to add to the relatively small list of ones who accept a Biden victory.

A non-retiring incumbent in Oklahoma?  The dam is breaking.

For a while, Trump's election fraud jokes were funny, but they've started to wear pretty thin now.

Georgia's Republican (!) Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger says that he has not seen any evidence of widespread voter fraud in his state's presidential election and also doesn't anticipate a hand recount will change President-elect Joe Biden's victory there.

What a RINO. Didn't he get the message? The new narrative is that Biden "stole" the election, period.

don't necessarily believe every random white house aide but this seems plausible at least

Yes. I've posted similar stories by Associated Press and Washington Post (same leakers?)

Also, it is easier to justify 2024 run, if you say, your presidency has been stolen  Wink + Tongue
Oh, anybody who believes that Trump is doing this because "his supporters deserve it" is a grade A moron.

Even if this is true, I wish Trump could have found a way to "fight for his voters" without demonizing his political opponents and accusing them of election crimes they clearly didn't commit. But I guess that's the only way he knows how to fight for someone/something, by insulting or slandering the opposition.

George W. Bush's former chief ethics lawyer Richard Painter files ethics complaint against Lindsey Graham, citing Graham's attempts to influence Brad Raffensperger to invalidate thousands of mail-in ballots:

One Republican Congressman has seen enough:

He's retiring.

Mitchell's also representing a district just north of Detroit which might explain why he's so pissed over Trump's allegations.

Erick Erickson absolutely lays into all the Trump supporters who still believe the election was stolen.  Very much worth reading!

Unrolled version: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1333571302565814272.html

Yes, it's a vast conspiracy involving multiple state governments (including GOP-led ones), the media (including FOX), the courts (including Trump-appointed ones), Dominion Voting Systems, the Department of Justice, the entire intelligence community, the Democratic Party, and the Republican Party to illegally remove Donald Trump from office who in reality has been re-elected in a landslide. Everybody is in on it, because they knew they couldn't otherwise beat him. Tongue

Wait a minute, if Trump got 30% of his "actual" votes substracted and moved to Biden in AZ... doesn't that mean that he must have won 2.37 million votes in reality instead of just 1.66 million like in his official vote tally. Which means Trump won the state with 70% of the vote as opposed to Biden's 28%.

Trump filed another failing lawsuit in Wisconsin, local conservatives are sure this will be the one that throws out all the "illegal ballots".

Seems to me that Trump is always exactly one final lawsuit away from winning re-election after all. "Next time it'll work for sure!"

Trump loses at the Supreme Court, 9-0, no dissents:

I can't wait to see what Trump tweets about this.

The sucker should have put Jared and Ivanka on the bench. Tongue

Sounds like Trump’s ace legal team will be bringing some ironclad arguments to the #SupremeCourt

Hilarous that both sentences in Trump's tweet happen to be incorrect.

Does it mean it gets double-flagged by Twitter?

It's like he's trying to be as factually incorrect as possible. He must've noticed Nixon won Iowa and figured, "How can I make my lie even bigger"

Obviously, Trump is trolling the country on purpose.

I watched some of the WISC hearing and, honestly, the liberal justices seem like ideologized clowns too. What the hell kind of judge accuses a lawyer appearing before them of being un-American to their face? This is amateur hour all around.
trying to overturn democratic elections is un-American

Gotta agree. The outcome wasn't rigged, Joe Biden was elected president. End of story. It's not inherently wrong for judges to chew out so-called "lawyer"when they happen to try to argue to the opposite.

Why does the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy "investigate" voter fraud allegations? Isn't that a possible misuse of government funds? Congress should look into it.
