None of them really sum up my view, but option 2 comes closest.

I find option 3 to be the most likely, though I would not completely discount the other ones.

Option 2 -I have no doubt that the texts included in the Bible were written by men who were inspired by what they perceived as God's personal presence -of course, so were those texts that ultimately didn't make it into the Bible that we give the label 'Gnostic'.

So do you believe women should be stoned for adultery even in this post-modern world we live in now, if you believe everything in the Bible should be taken literally?

Well, this entire thread is a straw man.

I believe the bible is the revealed word of God to mankind.  But I only take it literally where it was meant to be taken literally and I take it figuratively where it was meant to taken figuratively.  And I believe that distinction is obvious – if it compares us to sheep, that doesn’t mean the bible is trying to say that people are literally sheep, it simply means it is comparing common attributes between the behavior of the two groups.

This is for those of you who believe I solely quote Chick:

The Bible is the nspired word of God: 2 Timothy 3:16

Jeremiah 36: 1-3, 2 Peter 1:21- Clearly states that if you add anything or take anything away from the Bible plagues will be wrought agains that person.

"Preople need every word of it."- Mathew 4:4

Damn, god sucks at spelling.

I don't know, nor is it really possible to know, nor do I really care all that much.

I will say, however, that people who use quotes from the Bible in attempts to prove that the Bible is the word of God need their heads examined.

Hey, Gabs, so using your logic Biblical qoutes being used in a debate on the authenticity of the Bible is "crazy". That's like saying using a cook book to verify a recipe in a cooking debate is crazy.

Here's a question: suppose someone came up to you and asserted that everything he says is the truth, and that you should never argue with him.  Then, to prove this assertion, he simply said that it's true because everything he says is the truth.  Would you feel satisfied with this justification?

If not, and if it seems flawed to you, then I'm sorry to tell you that it's exactly the same reasoning that you're using.  If the Bible is the word of God, then it does not need to be stated, because it's already known to be the case.  On the other hand, if the Bible is not the word of God, then the fact that it says that it is does not make the statement true.

Therefore, the truth of the Bible's assertion that it is the word of God is entirely dependent on whether or not the Bible is indeed the word of God.  Thus, the fact that the Bible asserts that it is the word of God does not give any new information about the Bible's status whatsoever.  It's akin to a witness vouching for his own trustworthiness.

How about this, if you don't believe it is true then I'm sorry for you, if you believe it is true more power to you. We all have different views in life and we are all tend to not change them. So why are we trying to prove to the other side that they are wrong? Lets just agree to disagree on it.

I'm not trying to prove that the Bible is not the word of God.  I have no idea whether or not it is, and quite frankly, I don't believe it's possible to know.  What I am saying is that the fact that the Bible says it's the word of God does not tell us anything about whether or not it actually is.  This is a simple fact that can be obtained through the most basic of logical reasoning.
