Saw someone share this post on Instagram. I’ve seen a lot of very big brained ideas the past few months but this might top it all.

people with real medical conditions wish they could be cured by just altering their diet

fatties spend more time at hospital than the elderly or smokers/former smokers

We likely could reduce obesity nationally if we stopped subsiding corn (and by extension, cheap high fructose corn syrup).

The cause of obesity is due to rise of drinking juices and sody pop and carbohydrates and the closures of gyms and fitness didnt help during Covid 19. Not to mention high school kids lacking PE during online learning.
That's why obesity is on the rise

I think it stands for Black and Indigenous People of Colour? I suppose just some long winded way to say Blacks and Native Americans, probably to draw a distinction between them and Asians and Hispanics for some reason

Which makes even less sense because if I'm not mistaken Hispanic people are the most obese ethnic group in America...

CDC and other health organizations should start tailoring diet advice based on ethnicity. For example many non-whites are lactose intolerant yet because of Eurocentric worldview and deference to the dairy industry it's recommended that you get 2 to 3 servings of dairy products each day. This is advice that is completely harmful for many people.

This is without getting into the outsized influence that the meat industry, soft drink companies, fast food, sugar and corn industries have on our dietary policy. There was a time where sales of fast food like McDonalds was actually softening and they aggressively marketed and grew marketshare with the African American community to make up the slack.

The United States government has always had poor, uneven, resourceless, and neglectful health policy towards communities of color because of white supremacy. This is also why there is such huge resistance towards socialized medicine from many whites. Even something as watered down as Obamacare was tremendously beneficial for the black community.

If we banned restaurants we could successfully combat obesity.

Obviously, that isn't happening.

It’s our culture.
We have a terrible food culture and our automobile culture is horrendous for the body.

Mealtimes should be communal and children should be taught how to cook/stay nourished properly at a young age. We should have more gardens everywhere (this is improving) and properly educate kids in schools on these topics.

I also wish we had more public transport and denser cities instead of this awful suburban sprawl. That way more people can bike/walk to work. America was doomed to be a nation of obesity by the 1960’s with changing cultural attitudes and the rise of sprawling suburbs.

Obesity is increasing in the Asian American population, which also varies greatly depending on what group/country you're talking about.

Gotta say this whole "fat is beautiful" thing is one of the most confounding trends to me. Obviously you shouldn't bully or mistreat someone for being fat, but obesity is objectively linked to poorer health and increased susceptibility to almost any disease out there. It would be insane if a public health agency WASN'T trying to combat an epidemic of such a thing.

Black men are actually less likely to be obese than non-Hispanic White men.

(although the opposite, and by far, is true for women)

All restaurants? Why?

Also, would people not just buy massive portions of unhealthy foods at supermarkets?
