Hume almost certainly knew that a peace settlement in NI would very likely mean SF and the DUP becoming the two main parties, but despite that he had no doubt it was the right thing to do.

And it was.

(and the fulsome tribute to him from Gove yesterday is bleakly amusing, given his past on the GFA)
