My initial thought was that they would do worse in the South, but then again maybe not as the Catholic issue wouldn't be there like it was for Kennedy. Conversely, Humphrey would not get the same boost Kennedy got in Northeastern states with large Catholic populations like Massachusetts. But they might have gone D anyway.

It would probably still be really close, but Humphrey wouldn't have the massive charisma advantage over Nixon that Kennedy did. Perhaps Nixon doesn't flop as hard in the debates as a consequence. And perhaps in an election this close, that would be enough to get him over the line with the continued popularity of Eisenhower.
