I would have probably voted for him all three times, but I really can't make up my mind on this one.

I would have voted against him all times but I strongly prefer JFK and Humphrey to McGovern.

I can only answer with hindsight.

Would've voted for him: 1960
Would've voted for his Democratic opponent: 1968
Would've abstained: 1972

1960 probably would be the only time I would've considered voting for him (at least with hindsight), given the shady crap he and his campaign officials pulled in 1968 and 1972.

1972, but I'd also probably vote for him in 1960 and I'm unsure how I'd vote in 1968

With Hindsight, 1960. America would be a very different and possibly better place if Nixon was President in the early 60s.

I would have voted for him 1972 without hindsight. Perhaps would also have voted for him 1960. In 1968, would definitely have backed Humphrey.

1972: I would have been very likely/safe to back him over McGovern

1968: Humphrey and Nixon are both not bad on policy imo but I prefer Nixon as a person. Nixon vote. However, if LBJ was re-nominated: definite LBJ vote.

1960: Nixon without hindsight because I would have no way of knowing that Kennedy's election would lead to a man I approve of so much (LBJ) getting into the White House, albeit through tragic means.

1960, because he was running against a horrible papist.

(J/K)

1960 is still my answer, but I wouldn’t have voted for him.

1960, although I probably still would have voted for Kennedy in the end. I absolutely would not have in 1968 and 1972.

1960 was the least socially/culturally divided, so 1960 it is. However, it’s unlikely that I would have voted for Nixon in any election.

'60 -- '68 -------- '72

I'd support him in '60 and '68, not sure about '72.

1972 with no hindsight, for the same reasons everyone else voted for him that year. Things were going pretty well under him for a while, his policies turned out to be pretty moderate and reasonable for the most part, and McGovern was a weak candidate. Knowing what I know now, of course, it’s out of the question however.

1960 with hindsight. Would have saved JFK’s life, and maybe prevented Nixon from getting as bitter and corrupt as he got. Though who knows how Cuba goes down if Nixon is president then?

1968 I would have voted for Humphrey regardless. Without hindsight, I would not have trusted Nixon or the GOP with their dogwhistling about “law and order” and claims of a top secret plan to end Vietnam. And I still would have preferred LBJ and the Democrats’ domestic agenda. With hindsight, I know Nixon possibly sabotaged peace talks to help his election, so that makes me even less likely to vote for him.

You really don't know much of Nixon's electoral history before that, do you?

Then again, Nixon winning '60 does have the dubious benefit of JFK saved for '64 or '68 depending on whether or not he takes on President Lodge or not, and fewer dirty campaigns down the line.

Definitely would have voted for him in 60 and probably would have held my nose and done it in 72 given the alternative. Might have sat out 68.
