Consider the following major crises: American Revolution, Civil War, Great Depression, World wars, Year 1968, Watergate, 9/11, Great Recession and year 2020.

Rank from the most sever to the least sever.

My rank:
1- Civil War
2- Year 2020 / Great Depression
4- World Wars
5- American Revolution
6- Year 1968
7- Great Recession
8- 9/11
9- Watergate

Uhm...quite easily:

1.  Civil War
2.  World War II
3.  Great Depression
4.  9/11
5.  "Year 2020"?
6.  Year 1968
7.  Great Recession
8.  Watergate

Didn't rank the Revolution, because it's actually way less of a historically dramatic event then many think; the Colonies had been growing distant from GB for quite some time, the casualties inflicted from the War were actually quite minor, and the daily life of most people changed relatively little.

The amount of social/political change that happened in response to the Civil War and World War II is extremely profound; these wars and the periods immediately following them were the most "revolutionary" periods of American history.

I would name the pandemic of 2020 as the major crisis in U.S. history, although this continues currently as well.

Along with the pandemic, Donald Trump and the Trump presidency are the other major crises ever faced by the United States.

Meh for the world? Yeah of course World War 2 by a mile but its possible to argue that COVID has been more harmful to the American mainland than WW2. I disagree but its possible.

The War of 1812 is profoundly underrated.

1: Civil War
2: World War II
3: Great Depression
4: 2020
5: 9/11
6: 1968
7: Great Recession
8: Watergate

I have a hard time ranking the American Revolution because it's completely unique from all other events. I could also see 2020 passing the Great Depression for #3.

There's a sizeable gap between #1-5 and #6-8 IMO.

I lump the "Spanish Flu" together with World War I.

And taken together, are several magnitudes worse than today's Rona.

American2020, I have something very important to tell you.

The plural of crisis is crises.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Korea as that was a major conflict that had a draft.
