I wouldn’t be surprised if Murkowski runs as an independent in 2022 and caucuses with Democrats, and receives the support of the Democratic Party (similar to what Alyse Galvin and Al Gross are doing this cycle). This would be Democrat’s (and probably Murkowski’s) best bet at holding the seat. This could be particularly appealing to Murkowski if Democrats win the Senate majority this fall.

I doubt Murkowski runs for the republican nomination again, and maybe she’ll just call it quits and retire from politics altogether.

Who runs on the republican side? Is there any chance we could see Sarah Palin run for this seat?

I wonder if Trump has a candidate in mind to challenge Murkowski, though. There doesn’t seem to be many viable options. Maybe Sarah Palin runs? She previously expressed interest. Joe Miller? Or maybe they just try to get a candidate that we haven’t heard of yet that can self fund?

I’m skeptical Palin will actually run. Trump and his supporters have already backed Kelly Tshibaka. If Palin was serious about running, she should’ve announced her campaign earlier to get Trump’s support and consolidate the anti-Murkowski vote. Perhaps I’m wrong though, maybe she’ll run in order to get back in the spotlight?

She could still feasibly make it into the top 4 General Election spots, I suppose. I’ll be interested to see what this campaign looks like if she runs, but I still think she sits this race out.
