I was surprised that until recently, many House Republicans represented Long Beach and the San Gabriel Valley (Craig Hosmer, Dan Lungren, David Dreier, Steve Horn, Gary Miller, and Ed Royce). It wasn’t until Royce retired that the SGV became all-Democratic. What areas were historically Democratic? I know that the South County San Diego district and the Santa Ana district were both historically represented by Democrats. Any other historically Democratic areas?

No. That was actually a swing region.

Much of Southern and Eastern LA County such as Bell, Bellflower, Montebello, South Gate, and Pico Rivera used to be quite Democratic even before they became overwhelmingly Latino areas due to their largely white working-class populations, often migrants from South-Central states such as Oklahoma and Arkansas.
