Regardless of who wins the election, an Inauguration Day ceremony will be held. However, will there be a crowd to go with that ceremony?

Probably. If Biden wins there will be one with recently close attention paid to Social distancing and the like.

If Trump wins, his supporters will pack in like sardines oblivious to any risks, and clap like trained seals when Trump falsely claims it was the biggest inauguration crowd in history.

If things are still as bad as (if not worse than) they are right now, then probably not. There probably wouldn't be any balls, either. The ceremony itself would probably just be a private swearing-in held in the Capitol Rotunda rather than at the West Front of the Capitol.

Yes. It will be smaller if Biden wins because they'll encourage people to stay separated. Trump will want the spectacle.

I wonder what the contingency plan is if Biden wins and they decide to not have the swearing in outside the Capitol at all to keep the crowds down.

It's going to be on Zoom. Does that count?

Biden can Zoom it in and govern from his basement for all I care. Unless there is a huge vaccine breakthrough in the next 6 months it would be terrible irresponsible to hold a traditional Inauguration day event.

No one watched the last one. Inargurations before TV wasnt a big event. That norm probably returns in abscense of a vaccine. CJ Robert's will swear in Trump or Biden anywhere, but the real oath is in the Oval Office anyways

They should hold one. COVID will hopefully die down and be under control by then, although there may not be a vaccine yet. Also the inaugural ceremony is a national tradition, it wouldn’t be the same without it.

I don't know about that one, OC.  John Wilkes Booth apparently turned out for Lincoln's inauguration.

...relationship didn't work out, but anyway.
