You leave in a very unfourtunate note. Sad and disappointing to see how much emotion and anger you felt about opposition to systemic police brutality against black people. Some very bad posts in ER's thread.

I strongly agree with Antonio here:

I hope you take this time to sincerely reflect on your warped perspective and severe lack of empathy, and come back to the forum closer to living by the Christian values you claim to support.

Sven has been muted as a result of him being conservative back in 2015. The march against conservatives continues!!!

You mean it's not OK to be a conservative here?  Wowsers, that's an eye-opener!

I'd have hoped a break would have a better effect than this.

The above is a bit of playful sarcasm.  I was wondering how long it would take for someone to discover me posting.

I really appreciate the kind words everyone had.  I am working on an apology article.  I have no idea if they will accept and run the article or not, but I'm going to write it regardless and try to get it out there in one way or another.

Self-reflection and admitting mistakes is hard, but not that rare. Actually doing something about it is rare. Thank you.

There are many people here that are giving props to the OP that are incapable of doing this.  Fifty-one people have "recommended" his post as of this writing.  How many of them are capable of what is mentioned above?

In a year, how many will see their need to see that, on this site, they failed to sufficiently rebuke the actual rioting and looting which has resulted in the loss of more innocent life, in addition to George Floyd.  Will they see that a good deal of the violence went on, destroying businesses, homes, and injuring and killing innocent people, requiring a significant forceful government response to quell rioting, because of the belief on the part of the rioters that they widespread public support in their RIOTING?

If this ushers in a new spirit of introspection on this Brave New Atlas, I'm all for it.  I'm waiting to see how much self-reflection and admitting of mistakes comes forth from the Left here; that includes LGBTQ, Trans, Socialists, Greens, BLM supporters, Intersectionalists, and plain old liberals with bad cases of Trump Derangement Syndrome.  How many of them will be "introspective"?  Or are they never wrong?  Do they have nothing to apologize for or correct (other than not pushing harder for Mike Naso's banning than they did)?

Identity Politics itself makes honest introspection impossible, because it puts one's individual conscience in conflict with group loyalty, and the group has power beyond its merits in the mind of the individual.

So where's your introspection?  I mean, you feel free to serve as an Unappointed Judge of me (and other people), even as you resent others judging you.

Since I last posted, there have been riots in over 40 American cities.  The "protests" are not "peaceful"; they have become riots that feature arson, looting, and vandalism.  And, of course, they threw social distancing to the wind.  The reaction by the left is to prosecute persons who affirmatively defend themselves from the Mob, loose the Cancel Culture on those who express the slightest disagreement with the BLM agenda.  (Black lives do matter, and they haven't always sufficiently mattered in Amerca, to be sure, but so do all other human lives, and BLM is a Marxist organization.)

Now I will ask YOU something:  What would you expect of YOUR government (in Israel) if a fringe group of Palestinian terrorists occupied a portion of the Knesset (assuming they could)?  What would you expect of the Idaho State Police if government facilities were occupied by a militia led by someone like Cliven Bundy and their actions included the sort of things that have gone on in Seattle or Minneapolis?  What would you want the City of Richmond, VA do if a group of Proud Boys and Stormfront marched down Monument Ave. to the statue of Arthur Ashe (with a sufficient sized mob) and sought to pull it down?  What would you say if their gatherings were described as "mostly peaceful protesting"?  That's how rallies where marchers chant of the police, "Pigs in a blanket!  Fry 'em like bacon!" are described; what would you say to that?  Would you be happy if the local police stand down in the face of such events?

My empathy has limits.  I have no empathy for those who wish to destroy my country or injure its citizens.  And I have no empathy for people who seek to replace our Constitutional Republic with something else, either all at once, or on the installment plan.

A lot has happened since I last posted, has it not?

My post above isn't a criticism of you; it's a response to Parrotguy who mentioned my post in a previous thread you started.

If people remember nothing more from THAT post, I hope they remember the last sentence.  Sadly, it's playing itself out.

Quote
What has occurred instead is an outbreak of rioting, looting, beating, and even killing (in the instance of David Dorn) in the name of "justice".  The bottom line to all of this is that the vast majority here do not seem to firmly acknowledge that none of the rioting, looting, beating, and killing on the part of the Mobs in the streets is justified.  And many people are unwilling to admit just how much of what is called "peaceful protest" is actually criminal rioting and looting at a minimum.

Good to see you leaving this tidbit of falsehood before you went, lol.

In any case, I wish you the best in your personal affairs, Fuzzy.

So how well has this post aged?

I second this. I'm glad that he decided to make his return to the forum at this juncture. Hopefully, he doesn't leave again, as he provides a valuable contribution to the discourse here.

So, he left because his side of the 'BLM vs. racist suburban WASPs' debate was badly losing the narrative and had gone into terrified retreat.  Now, three weeks later, he’s presumably spent enough time on Facebook or Fox News comments sections to restock his repertoire in full force.  Can’t wait!  Roll Eyes

Or...maybe he just was tired of being attacked for his views and people assuming his beliefs?
I am admittedly guilty of the latter.

When you hold reprehensible views on most social issues, as he does, you deserve to be attacked.  Repeatedly.  Especially if you keep doubling and tripling down on those same points at interminable length.  Besides, he was perfectly able to handle himself right up until he finally ran out of talking points for his losing side of the argument.

His views actually are pretty good, for a conservative at least.
But regardless, Fuzzy was right in the end. Covid cases are spiking, and the protests became rapidly violent across the country. Many neighborhoods simply will never recover. That isn’t social justice, and I’m shocked anyone believes it is.

Covid cases were spiking before the protests and were skyrocketing in states where they weren't occurring--because states opened up indoor venues too early. Most of the protesters are wearing masks, tearing down pieces of concrete isn't the end of the world (and often done by small numbers of people anyway) and claiming "neighborhoods won't recover" is nothing more than an emotionally-driven exaggeration that has no basis in reality, as if this is the first time riots have ever occurred.
