NH Governor John Lynch endorses Russ Feingold, calls him the voice of the working Americans.

Today, in a speech in Manchester, NH, Governor John Lynch endorsed Russ Feingold, calling him a personal friend and a person he can trust with governing the nation and bringing back the American dream for millions of families. He said that Russ will govern with compassion, listen to Americans from all regions and implement progressive policies. He will govern throughout NH while Russ Feingold will focus on winning Iowa.

RON PAUL SHOOTS BACK AT TRUMP

Following Donald Trump's acceptance of the Constitution Party nomination and remarks on Rep. Ron Paul, the Paul campaign released this statement:

"Mr. Trump has accused our campaign of the same shady deals that his friends, the Clinton's, engage in. Truth be told, our campaign was just as shocked by Senator Allen's departure, but it doesn't surprise us. Conservatives and reformers see the need to coalesce around a solid candidate who can both win the election and offer crucial change. Mr. Trump has been close to the Clintons for years, even giving them spots of honor at his wedding. If it's real change and not more status quo dealings the people want, Ron Paul is the candidate to support."

Trump Response to Representative Paul

"Rep. Paul wants to use the fact that I am friends with the Clintons as an attack, saying that I'm part of the establishment. Just one question, folks, if I'm her friend, why am I running an Independent Campaign for President instead of staying out of the race and endorsing her? Watch him say that if she gets the Nomination, I'll drop out like Perot did in '92 and support her, which, I guarantee, won't happen folks. As for my relationship with the Clintons, I admit, I befriended them and gave them an honor spot at my wedding, but I have to befriend people from both sides of the aisle in order to be successful with my projects. That's called Business and is known as the Art of the Deal. If Ron can't see the reasoning behind the need for a businessperson like myself to have connections on both sides to be able to get my plans passed so people can get jobs, then I don't know what to say. However, I do want to say this towards him, Ron, if you're listening to this, remember that you have several opponents in the Republican Primary even with Allen dropping out and I was merely pointing out the fact that one could see that endorsement as suspicious. For right now, you focus on winning the Primary because I believe you can do it, so the people will have two choices over the establishment. Let's save everything, all the Negative ads and responses for one another for the general? Deal? Thank you."

Russ Feingold - I am the only candidate who is an outsider to the DC establishment and its corruption

In a speech given in Iowa, Russ Feingold claimed to be the only candidate who is not a part of the political establishment and uninfluenced by its corrupt ways. He said that despite spending years in Washington, not once had he cut a backroom deal, something his opponents are quite fond of doing even in a political campaign, and he had not taken a dollar from billionaires or an advice from lobbyists.  Once elected President, he promised to bring the needed fresh vision in order to reform Washington to its core and take it away from the grip of the wealthy. He said that the biggest problem America faces is how its political system shifted away from the people and towards division, partisanship and corruption and that prevents all the other issues faced by working Americans from being solved, and that he will make it its top priority to address this crisis. He also said that the main reason for which he is the best candidate to defeat the corporate-backed Republicans in November is his honesty towards the American people and the fact that he is the only candidate who is not part of the establishment and towards whom the people can manifest their hopes for a better future.

SECOND DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
All Images from Wikimedia Commons

Good evening and welcome to the second presidential debate of the 2008 election. I'm Wolf Blitzer, coming to you from Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada. Tonight, I'll be serving as your moderator for the Democratic presidential candidates. Later on, we'll have the Republican candidates hosted by specially returning anchor Bernard Shaw.

For the last few weeks, we've asked the audience to send in questions that you would like to be asked to our presidential candidates, and the audience has delivered. Tonight's rules are simple. Each candidate will have a few moments for opening remarks. Questions will be posed by myself, with each candidate getting a specific one. Afterwards, candidates will be asked for closing statements and rebuttals, if they so wish.

Responses will be judged based on clarity, length, and of course response from you, the voters. Let's get started and one at a time introduce the Democratic candidates for President of the United States...

New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton...

Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold...

Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel...

Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer...

California Congresswoman Barbara Lee...

Vice President Joe Lieberman...

and finally, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius

Questions for Specific Candidates

For Senator Clinton: You were recently endorsed by Oprah Winfrey, one of the most prominent African-American celebrities in history. What do you think this says about your appeal to minority voters, especially given the fact that your most significant challenger, Congresswoman Lee, is a woman of color?

For Senator Feingold: You've been endorsed by the AFL-CIO, one of the most prominent labor unions in the country. What do you believe this says about your appeal to working class voters?

For Senator Gravel: You’ve been out of the Senate for nearly three decades now. How do you intend to stand out in a field of far more recent politicians?

For Governor Schweitzer: Senator Feingold has claimed he's the only candidate who is a DC outsider unbeholden to special interests. As a governor running as the "People's Democrat," how do you respond to these claims?

For Congresswoman Lee: You have called for a massive overhaul of the current prison system in America, including a ban on private prisons. How would we pay for prisons that would shift back under government control?

To Vice President Lieberman: Some on the left have claimed that you aren’t the right nominee for a party that “wants to move forward.” How do you respond to these attacks?

For Governor Sebelius: You have called for the auditing of government spending if you are elected President. How do you intend to ensure such audits are not themselves corrupted by Washington's influence?

Answers are due June 27. Good luck!

SECOND REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
All Images from Wikimedia Commons

Good evening and welcome to the second GOP presidential debate. I'm Bernard Shaw, coming to you from Eckerd College in beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida. Tonight, I'll be serving as your moderator for the Republican presidential candidates. Earlier, my colleague Wolf Blitzer was live from Las Vegas, Nevada, with the Democratic candidates for president.

Let's get started and one at a time introduce the Republican candidates for President of the United States...

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg...

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher...

Pennsylvania Congresswoman Melissa Hart...

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal...

New York Governor George Pataki...

Texas Congressman Ron Paul...

Former Defense Secretary Colin Powell...

and lastly, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney...

Questions for Specific Candidates

For Mayor Bloomberg: If elected, you would be the richest President in history. How do you intend to convince the average American that you understand their plight?

For Governor Fletcher: Some have begun to call you the candidate of "hope and change" for Republicans. Why do you believe this is?

For Congresswoman Hart: You have often brought up your bipartisan support in your electoral victories. What do you believe creates this appeal you have with Democrats, and how do you intend to capitalize on it if you are the nominee?

For Governor Jindal: You’ve stated that you will "bring back" jobs that President Gore has destroyed. Which jobs are these, and how would you bring them back?

For Governor Pataki: You have made regular reference to your tax cuts in New York as proof of your conservative chops; how would you reform the tax code as President?

For Congressman Paul: Some have voiced concern at the possibility that some of your policies, such as the legalization of marijuana, will throw social conservatives to Donald Trump and elect the Democrats to a fifth consecutive term. How do you respond to these attacks?

To Secretary Powell: Many Republicans have complained about your preaching Republican Party unity after serving six years under a Democratic administration. How do you respond to these people who claim you’re being an opportunist?

To Governor Romney: Despite entering the race in a reasonable position, you have since slumped to the lower single digits. What do you believe is the cause of this, and how do you intend to right it?

Responses are due June 27. Good luck!

CLINTON DEBATE RESPONSES

Opening Statement

Quote
Thank you, Wolf, and thank you to the city of Las Vegas for hosting this debate. I am honored to be here on stage with my fellow candidates. Tonight you will hear a lot of idea's but I want everyone watching in person and all over the country to know who do you want fighting for you in the White House?

For the past 30 years, I have worked my butt off for the American people, whether it be fighting for children with economic disadvantages and disabilities or fighting to ensure gay Americans have the equal rights they so deserve. My experience is what we need in a President right now, for the past 14 years we have had 2 administrations who have done everything they possibly can to fight for the American people and I promise you that I will do the same as President.

On day one, President Hillary Clinton will fight to pass proper healthcare reform ensuring every citizen in this country has healthcare and fighting to pass proper gun control solutions, I am a progressive but I am a progressive that can get things done, I have been getting things done for the past 30 years, now is the time for us to elect a leader ready and tested, it's your time, let's get this done!

You were recently endorsed by Oprah Winfrey, one of the most prominent African-American celebrities in history. What do you think this says about your appeal to minority voters, especially given the fact that your most significant challenger, Congresswoman Lee, is a woman of color?

Quote
I was absolutely honored when I received the call from Oprah Winfrey telling me she planned to endorse me it was almost surreal. Oprah is a leading figure on issues such as women's reproductive health and opportunities for African American's, her support means the world to me and our campaign.

What her endorsement says is we are ready to take on the issues for people of color in this country, let's end the income gap between blacks and whites, let's fight to end racial profiling in our police system. Ms. Winfrey gets it, we need a President who is ready to take on these issues! And believe me, I will be that President!

Closing Statement

Quote
Tonight you heard a variety of ideas and responses to the issues, but I restate my claim on how we need a President who is ready on Day One!

I want to be President for Gary in Iowa is struggling to pay for his mortgage because he also has to pay for health insurance or Jessica from South Carolina who wants her children to go to a good school but is struggling to keep the lights on in her house. These are Americans who want a better America for them and their loved ones and we must provide!

We have to speak truth to these issues or else they will be lost in the world now is the time to act as a country! Together we can make these changes, let's not be afraid to think bold, let's not be afraid to expand opportunities because that is what we do!

Thank you and may God bless you!

Kathleen Sebelius Debate Responses

DSCN0658-sebelius by GovWin a Deltek Network, on Flickr

Quote
Opening statement:

“It’s so good to be here in Las Vegas. Thank you for having us, Paris, and for moderating us, Wolf. We’ve got a big choice to make next year, it’s a choice that will define the Democratic Party’s future, and the frontrunners would like you to think our choice is binary, we either rest our laurels on the successes of the past two administrations and become the party of the status quo or we radicalize and rush to the left, alienating Independents and moderate Republicans that are put off by extremism in either party. I reject the idea that the Democratic Party is stuck in this binary.

The truth is, we have to pull off something historic if we want to fix what’s broken in Washington and deliver real progress to the American people. We need fresh ideas from outside of the Washington establishment, we need someone with a record of bipartisan support and the right kind of experience. I believe I am that candidate, as the Governor of a red, Midwestern state, I know what it takes to build coalitions with moderate Republicans and Independents, I know how to balance a budget without cutting essential programs, and I know how to take on powerful interests working against the needs of the American people. I’m running for President to be the people’s advocate in Washington, not to be an avatar of the status quo or fringe movements."

Quote
For Governor Sebelius: You have called for the auditing of government spending if you are elected President. How do you intend to ensure such audits are not themselves corrupted by Washington's influence?

The federal government needs to be held to the same responsibility as the taxpayers who fund it, which is why I’ve outlined my plan for an audit similar to what I did in Kansas. I built a team of business leaders, citizens, and policymakers, that way there was diversity in experience and backgrounds to prevent the audit from being yet another partisan battle. I plan on recreating these Budget Efficiency Savings Teams, or BEST, on the Federal level with leadership from both parties, small business owners, and a board of citizens from each region in the country. Like in Kansas, these teams will be in charge of auditing the government and suggesting solutions and innovations that both reduce waste and encourage modernization.

But here’s the best part, we won’t have to just take these teams at their word, under my plan, our yearly spending and audits will be available publicly online. I believe this is an important step to strengthening trust in our government while adding an extra layer of accountability and oversight by the American public. In Kansas, this same policy led to $1 billion in savings without a single cut to essential services or tax increase, so imagine scaling that up to the Federal level. As President, I will hold our government accountable to the people we serve, the American public.”

Quote
Closing statement:

“Tonight we heard a variety of ideas of which direction we should choose to move our party. On the extremes, we have business as usual and radicalize for the sake of novelty. I’m here to offer a different path forward. This path is one of fighting corruption and waste in Washington while opening up transparency for the American people. This path is one that puts our rights before the interests of lobbyists, one that requires real leadership and the right kind of experience.

As your nominee and your President, I will take what’s worked in my time as Insurance Commissioner and Governor of Kansas and scale it up to the Federal level, fighting for consumers not insurance companies when it comes to healthcare law, respecting our Second Amendment rights, and making sure our government is working for all of us, regardless of our political party or ideology. If you’re ready for a new path forward, please join this movement of making our government accountable to all of us! Thank you, and God bless.”

The answers of Senator Russ Feingold at the Second Democratic Debate

Opening statement -
Good evening, America. First of all, let me thank the organizers and moderators of this great debate and to all Americans watching us. The election of 2008 is maybe the most important in recent history, because we have an unique opportunity to actually choose the path forward for our nation. Which is why, I want to ask you a question. Are you satisfied with the way DC is working right now? Do you think that it is doing enough to solve the issues facing America? Do you think that it understands the plight of the working American? Is it truly listening to you? And if you answer these questions with YES, there are many candidates, both on this stage and on the the GOP stage, suited to represent your views. I am, unfortunately, not one of them. But if you answer these questions with NO, I can suggest you an alternative. Because if I am elected President, I will do my best to shake up DC from upside down and make it solve actual issues. Like the fact that millions of Americans are without health insurance, something never seen in any other major country, and that we regard reducing that number while still leaving millions of people without insurance as the end goal. Or the fact that millions of Americans are still living in poverty, without a home or unable to put food on their tables, and meanwhile politicians are concerned with corporate welfare. Or the fact that our tax code is unfair, biased towards billionaires and corporations which buy politicians. If these are important issues, join me in our movement to bring real, unprecedented change to our country.

Personal question -
Well, first of all I would like to thank the AFL CIO for its endorsement, it truly means a lot to me and it shows that our movement is stronger than ever. And I believe that I have a very strong following in the country, especially among the working class voters which have been forgotten by our rigged, corporate political system. And I meet people every day, at town halls and rallies across the country, who tell me their stories about how their communities were destroyed by NAFTA or how they have no health insurance and struggle to afford drugs and go to the doctor or how they are under-insured, and they are paying a lot for insurance not covering the most basic of needs or how poverty is or was impacting them personally and no one in the government helped them when they needed it the most. And my message about a more compassionate, effective government is clearly more appealing to them than some establishment, backroom-dealing politician coming and telling them that doing anything to actually solve their problems is unrealistic. Many of them are even donating to my campaign, as much as they can afford, and I welcome their support and I want to tell them again tonight that I will not let them down. A Feingold Administration will be different, and will not add any more broken promises to the long list DC has on this.

Closing statement -
Well, tonight we have heard a lot of ideas about the future of America. But, in my view, this election is about the path we want to take as a nation. We must not be afraid to go with bold choices and truly progressive values, because the status quo in which tens of millions of people are forgotten is no longer acceptable. DC has to change, and it will only change if next year we will all come together, both during the primaries and the general election, and tell it that the old ways are no longer acceptable, that America rejected all establishment candidates and wants a government cleared of corruption, of the grip of lobbyists, corporations and billionaires. So let us come together as Americans, put aside our differences and tell the crooks in Washington to start delivering or go home! Thank you and God bless you.

RON PAUL ANNOUNCES NEW ENDORSEMENTS

Today, following Ron Paul's rocketing to first place in the GOP primary, the campaign was endorsed by three prominent figures: Actor Clint Eastwood, columnist and conservative thinker Pat Buchanan, and Governor Mark Sanford. All three men cited different reasons for endorsing Congressman Paul, but they all centered around his commitment to fiscal responsibility, small government, and bringing change and new ideas to the Executive Branch. These endorsements are sure to bring attention, energy, and support to the campaign. We are excited to have such big names on board, and expect more heavy hitters on the right to coalesce around Paul in the coming weeks.

With Ron Paul's recent rise in the polls, his campaign is flush with cash, volunteers and endorsements, and the campaign is putting them to good use. More campaign offices have been opened, more voter contacts are being made, and Ron Paul himself has opened a new front in the campaign, spending more than a week travelling across the South, from Louisiana to Virginia. This area had recently been put off by the campaign, but now they believe they have a serious chance to either win these states or win enough delegates in them to establish Paul as a frontrunner. The campaign has also employed many surrogates, including Senator George Allen. The primary field is continually being changed and developed with the rise of Ron Paul.

Melissa Hart Debate Answers

Opening Statement:
Thank you all for joining us as we decide the critical question of who will lead the Republican Party as their presidential nominee in 2008. I know everyone in the audience and at home understands how crucial this choice is, and I think we all understand why it's important that we manage to put a Republican in the White House after 16 years. Over the course of this debate, I hope I can show you why I feel I'm the best suited to not only do just that but also expand the appeal of our party to more voters than we've reached in years past.

Question Response:
I started my congressional career by unseating an incumbent Democrat in a district with a significantly higher number of Democrats than Republicans. How was I able to accomplish this? I spoke to my constituents, and I listened. Blue-collar voters from across my district told me about the issues that had them worried. The availability of good-paying jobs, the burden that taxes put on them, and how it hindered their ability to provide for their families. I know that positions like securing our constituents good-paying jobs and ensuring our government never prevents our hard-working citizens from succeeding aren't just issues that resonate in my district. I can use these issues to win us back the White House, but more importantly, I can deliver on them once elected.

Closing Statement:
I hope tonight I was able to prove to you why I'm running for president. I believe that by listening to voters and running on making life for everyday Americans easier by taking their concerns and solutions into account. I'm Representative Melissa Hart, and when you vote for me, you're voting not just for my proven track record of winning tough elections, but also for my proven track record of keeping my promises when I win. And I'll promise you this, if elected I'll work toward an America where those in power are beholden to the will of the people, rather than special interests, and where Americans don't need to fear the government interfering in their ability to support their families. Thank you all, and good night.

RON PAUL DEBATE ANSWERS

Opening Statement: Good evening everyone, thank you for watching, and thank you CNN for hosting tonight’s show. You know, voting is just around the corner. A few weeks from now, people in Iowa and New Hampshire and right here in Florida are going to make their voice heard and choose a nominee. Now, we need to ask ourselves: What do we want in a nominee? Is it experience, is it policy, or is it commitment? Well folks, if that’s what you want, I have it all. I have worked for years in Congress on behalf of Texans, and as a doctor I met with many people and heard their experiences and struggles, which has prepared me to serve. On policy, I have always held the same values, and always will. Those values, of course, being the values of our Founders: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. And when it comes to commitment, no one has worked harder, or spoken louder, or traveled farther to say what I am going to say now. Ladies and gentlemen, we need a new birth of freedom in America.

Our debt is choking us out, our politicians continue to legislate every aspect of our lives, the bureaucracy is so overgrown and unaccountable, and our most basic rights are being stamped out. We must stand up against this once and for all. Folks, I have traveled to every state talking about this, and it has struck a chord. People agree with me, and that is why we’ve built a movement, an army to push back against the rising tide of big government. Will you join us?

Quote
Some have voiced concern at the possibility that some of your policies, such as the legalization of marijuana, will throw social conservatives to Donald Trump and elect the Democrats to a fifth consecutive term. How do you respond to these attacks?

Well, I’ll answer this in two parts. First of all, there should be no doubt about my conservative principles. I have always been pro-life, I support a traditional sense of marriage, I support fervently the Second Amendment, as well as the First and the whole Constitution. I support American sovereignty, and I think we need stronger border protection. If that’s not socially conservative, then I don’t know what is.

Secondly, if you’re a social conservative, or even a fiscal conservative, and are considering Donald Trump, let me talk to you for a second here. Donald Trump just isn’t conservative, and that’s the plain and truth of it. In 1999, Trump said he was “very pro-choice” on abortion. He has been a registered Democrat even recently. In 2003, a political issues website described Trump as “liberal-leaning.” Even on fiscal issues, Trump would continue to swell the debt, and grow wasteful government programs. He has been close friends with the Clinton's for years and has funded several liberal campaigns. The Republicans need a nominee who can offer a stark contrast to Clinton and Trump, and I believe, as do many, many voters, that I am the best candidate to do that.

Closing Statement: Well folks, you heard it here. Ron Paul, the unknown congressman, is suddenly rising to the top of the field. But why is that, you might ask? Because people recognize that in this moment, we can’t settle for the status quo. We need something different, something exciting, something other than Clinton/Gore/Trump. Our nominee must hold our values high, while also reaching out to other Americans, and bring together a diverse coalition. By doing this, we can win the election and bring an old and tested philosophy to a new era. We have the wind in our sails, and with your help, we can reach port together. Thank you.

Trump Response to Ron Paul during a Rally in Mobile, Alabama

Quote from: Trump
Did you watch the recent Republican Debate? Did you see how they acted? It was the same old, same old things that politicians in Washington always say. They say everything you want to hear but they will never deliver it to you. Among these people is Representative Ron Paul, or Wacky Ron as I like to call him. Wacky, Wacky Ron. Before I respond to his pathetic attack on me instead of actually answering the question, I have to say the Media pushed him to attack me, clear as day folks. Clear as day, and the reason for that is the Media doesn't like this. They don't like this movement we've built, this coalition we're leading together as one. So the only way to try and discredit a rising tide is by having the mainstream parties attack in their debates that should stick to just their parties. Leave questions involving myself for interviews with me or the General Election Debates, because I will certainly be glad to answer of them.

Now on to Wacky Ron's response. He has said that I am very pro-choice on abortion and while I am not afraid to tell you that I am, because unlike Washington, I don't lie folks, I say leave it up to the States. There's a reason laws in this country needs to go through 2/3rds of the states to become an amendment to our constitution and that's because the states are the body that helps determine the identity of the nation as a whole. I am individually pro-choice but I believe that every single state should choose its own laws on abortion rather than have the federal government force states to accept laws the citizens of that state likely doesn't agree with. I already explained my friendship with the Clintons being more or less because of Business and he conveniently forgets my feud with Mayor Koch that went on for years. He also forgets that I supported Reagan and Bush. As I said, as a Businessman, I need to have friends so I can get an advantage. Clearly, the Representative doesn't know anything about business when he says that. As for financial issues, I hear a lot of chit chat about the national debt and how its too high, but does he offer any solution? No, he doesn't. All he does is scream "The Debt! The Debt!" without offering any solutions. Well, how about for a change, I offer some solutions right here. How about one of the first things I work to cut is the Department of Education, which will likely take up almost $60 Billion in Federal Funding by the end of this fiscal year alone. It was a noble idea when it was first implemented, but over the years, our schools have only gotten worse and our children are falling more and more behind every other country in the world. It is now time to head to a system where the local county government determines a school's curriculum, not several hundred lawmakers in Washing D.C. How about we add in two more for safe measure in case Wacky Ron didn't hear it : Next will be the Crop Insurance Program that began in the Great Depression with very good intentions and at the very start, it did exceptionally well, but now it leads to destructive practices for Farmer's that harm their insurance. This cut will be $87 Billion and combined with the Department of Education will add up to nearly $147 Billion and then we have number three, The dumping of unused and under-used Government building because these buildings shouldn't even exist. If we don't need them right now, then why are they around? This will be nearly $15 Billion and will put total cut at $162 Billion. I won't talk about every single thing I'll cut, because I have a sneaky suspicion that Ron Paul or someone else will try and steal my ideas and use them for their own personal gain, But I assure you there will be more. As for Wacky Ron, watch as he comes out with the expected attack, saying that I'm a liberal who's this and that and friends of the Clintons and I can't be trusted and blabbity, blabbity, blah. It'll all be Washington speak for "I don't have an actual response." and we all know it. My personal advice to him, wait until he secures the nomination before responding and whenever asked a question that is trying to goad him into attacking me, call the Media out on it. It's time the people are the ones that have control, not them.

PHASE II, TURN II: DECEMBER 2007

And so we come to the final month of 2007, a critical stage in the campaign. The Democrats now find themselves in a growing kerfuffle, as Senator Hillary Clinton and Congresswoman Barbara Lee may soon be joined by Senator Russ Feingold on top of the heap, as Feingold pushed to capitalize as much as possible on his debate win in November.

Among the Republicans, it still appears to be a two-way duel, but now Congressman Ron Paul has replaced Senator Allen as Governor Ernie Fletcher's main opponent, and has managed to carve out a sizable lead for himself in the intervening days since his debate win.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump, despite the media's best efforts to stop him, continues to rise in the eyes of many Americans. Many of those on the right turned off by Congressman Paul's self-identification as a libertarian are beginning to see Trump as a viable option next November, as well as some self-proclaimed "anti-establishment" figures on the left (albeit not ones associated with Lee or Feingold). As the Trump coalition grows, a new reality is beginning to set in for the two big parties: they're not alone this time.

Kathleen Sebelius November Schedule

Source

1-7: Iowa

Fly to Sioux City
Rally in Sioux City
“I’ll be honest with you, we’ve got a tough road ahead. I’m not a Washington politician with 30 years of entrenchment with the political establishment. I’ve lived in the Midwest my whole life, and in Kansas since 1974. For me, championing the needs of this region is more than just political bluster, it’s about our home. Iowa has a chance to say no to the status quo and forge a new path forward, a political system that works for those of us in Middle America, rather than only showing up to county fairs when election season comes around.”
Townhall in Merrill
Rally in Le Mars
Townhalls in Cherokee, Sac City, and Fort Dodge
Rally in Ames
Townhall in Ankeny
Business roundtable in West Des Moines
Rally in Des Moines
Tour Marshalltown Company manufacturing plant
Rally in Waterloo
Speak at University of Northern Iowa
Townhalls in Dyersville and Independence
Rally in Dubuque

8-10: New Hampshire

Fly to Manchester
Rally in Manchester
Small business townhall in Londonderry
Rally in Nashua
“New Hampshire, I think you’ve got one hell of a motto, ‘live free or die.’ This is a state full of people who refuse to be told what to do, and that extends to politics here. Unfortunately, we’ve got some power players in Washington that want to tell the people of New Hampshire how to vote by engaging in backroom deals and big endorsement rollouts to keep the status quo in Washington alive by anointing a frontrunner. If I’ve learned anything campaigning here, it’s that you all won’t let that work because you know the status quo won’t do. We can’t allow powerful interests to select a candidate who represents politics as usual. We need to bring change to Washington, and that’s what I plan on doing.”
Townhalls in Amherst and Peterborough
Educator roundtables in Hillsboro and Henniker
Rally in Concord

11-15: Michigan

Fly to Detroit
Rally in Detroit, put out statement for Veteran’s Day
Union roundtable in Detroit, speaking with leaders about how to strengthen and modernize unions
Small business townhalls in Detroit suburbs
Rally in Flint

"I think Middle America deserves a candidate who shows up even when they're not running for national office. We don't need Washington insiders telling us who to support, and we don't need more of the same. What we need is a President who knows how to balance a budget, who can work across the aisle to get things done, who can navigate a crisis and lead. Not only that, but we've got to have someone who can inspire hope for our future. If Democrats want to win Middle America, we can't get complacent and run on a fifth Clinton term, we've got to acknowledge the successes of the past two administrations and put forward a plan to build on them."

Townhall in Birch Run
Rally in Saginaw
Rally in Midland
Rally in Lansing
Rally in Grand Rapids

16-21: Florida

Fly to Orlando
Open campaign office in Orlando
Small business roundtable in Orlando
Townhalls in Kissimmee and Lakeland
Rally in Tampa
Townhalls in St. Petersburg and Clearwater
Roundtables in Sarasota and Fort Myers
Rally in Miami

"I am so proud of so much of what we've been able to accomplish in Kansas, and I want to bring that to all 50 states. One of the most impactful programs has been our drug importation program, I-saveRx, which allows consumers to negotiate drug prices with our allies. This is the exact sort of common sense solution I hope ends up in Gorecare, and I will be watching closely and pushing from outside of Washington to be sure we can keep drug costs low. I believe we can work together and expand healthcare coverage all while keeping costs down."

Open campaign office in Miami
Rally in Fort Lauderdale
Rally in West Palm Beach

22-24:
Kansas

Thanksgiving with family in Kansas

25-30: Iowa

Fly to Dubuque
Rally in Dubuque
Townhalls in Maquoketa and DeWitt
Rally in Davenport
Roundtable in West Liberty
Rally in Iowa City

"Here's the thing, when politicians in Washington talk about guns, you can tell that they don't own them. There's such a clear differentiation between a law-abiding citizen exercising their right and someone who wants to do harm. I'm all for common sense compromise here, like preventing concealed carry laws, as they only increase the chance for accidents to happen. But, I'm not about to look my neighbors in the eye and say that even though they're a collector or a hunter and have done everything by the book that they should lose their Constitutional right."

Townhalls in North Liberty and Mt Vernon
Rally in Cedar Rapids
Townhalls in Tama and Newton
Rally in Des Moines
Rally in Ames
Rally in Fort Dodge

RON PAUL AD "VALUES"

"Values. Values are what make America strong. They have guided us, protected us, and strengthened us through the centuries."

"But over the past sixteen years, our values have been undermined by our own leaders."

"With the swipe of a pen, they took away our rights, sold out our future, and intervened in our every decision. And all the while, they pushed their agenda."

"Now, people are standing up, and Ron Paul is standing with them."

"I’m Ron Paul. During my time in Congress, I’ve always stood for our American values. I’m pro-Constitution, pro-life, pro-gun, and pro-family. With your help, we can take this fight to the White House, and reverse the wrongs of the Clinton Dynasty. Will you join us?"

"I'm Ron Paul and I approve of this message."

The campaign will be airing this ad on radio, television, and online in select media markets in the following states:

Election Update 2008
with your host, Tom Brokaw

Brokaw: Good evening. I'm Tom Brokaw, and welcome to tonight's edition of Election Update 2008.

Brokaw: And tonight is marked by relatively little on the campaign trail, although we hope that soon the polls will begin to indicate who won the second presidential primary debates.

Brokaw: And now, of course, for our special guest tonight, Congressman Ron Paul from Texas. Congressman, how are you tonight?

Paul: I'm good, Tom. Glad to be here.

Brokaw: And we're glad to have you, as well. Now then, since your breakout debate performance, the best description for your support is “skyrocketing.” What do you believe is the biggest factor behind this?

Paul: Well Tom, people want change. I don’t care who it is, Democrat, Republican or otherwise, after 16 straight years people get tired. And they don’t just get tired of the party or the person. People are tired of these failed policies that aren’t getting us anywhere except in more debt. My campaign is offering them something different. This is the most serious campaign for smaller government and spending since Calvin Coolidge probably. And the fact that we are powered by the support of regular people, many of whom were previously apolitical, is saying to others “hey, maybe there is something going on here.”

Brokaw: A show of support for living one's own life. Now then, some social conservatives have spoken of concerns about your self-proclaimed libertarianism, fearing you may govern more in line with the ideals of the pro-choice, pro-gay rights Libertarian Party. How would you assuage these fears if you are the nominee?

Paul: Tom, if I really supported that, then wouldn’t I be seeking the Libertarian nomination instead? No, I’m seeking the Republican nomination because this is the party of my beliefs, the party of Constitutionalism and the party of common sense. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: look at just about any issue, and you’ll see I’m as conservative as the next guy. As for uniting the party, that is one of the most important factors in this election. Donald Trump is already polling at 10% or higher. If even one or two percent of Republicans vote for him or stay home, we lose. And we simply can’t afford a fifth term of the Clinton Dynasty. I’m more than willing to meet with the other candidates prior to or during the convention process, and seriously talk about how we can put aside our differences and fixate on the common goal. I also think the vice-presidential candidate will play into that quite a bit. I’m not making any promises at this point, but that will be an important decision as we head towards that point.

Brokaw: Strength through unity, lest yet a third straight Democrat win the White House. Now then, assuming you do win the Presidency next year, what would you first 100 days be like?

Paul: My first 100 days would probably see focuses on budgeting and the issue of healthcare. Of course, both of those depend on who controls Congress, but either way I’m going to push for what we want in those areas; namely, checking rampant spending and blocking government intrusion in healthcare. I would also start looking for ways to make the government smaller but still effective where it needs to be. Another issue would be our troops, it’s time to bring them home from all these places. It’s not our job to be policing the world. They don’t want us in many of these places, many Americans don’t want to be there, so why are we? Let’s bring home our kids. And lastly, there are plenty of judicial nominations to be made as president. We need originalist, Constitutional judges who will simply decide cases instead of legislating from the bench and forwarding their own ideologies.

Brokaw: A strong push for government spending cuts and libertarian justices, bringing about the possibility of vastly increasing the national surplus, which has declined in the later years of the Gore administration. Finally, Congressman Paul, if you could say one thing to the American people, what would it be?

Paul: I say that we don’t have to keep electing the same people with the same mindsets over and over. It just doesn’t work. Let’s go with something has been tried and tested, both here and elsewhere. Let’s get the government back to a reasonable size with healthy taxing and spending so people can focus on their own lives and well-being without worrying about Uncle Sam following them around all day. Just give it a try; I’m sure you’ll like it!

Brokaw: Congressman Paul, always a pleasure to have you on.

Paul: Always one to be here, Tom.

Brokaw: And that will be all for tonight. Tune in Sunday when we will interview Governor Kathleen Sebelius.

Brokaw: Until then, I'm Tom Brokaw, and this has been your Election Update.

Brian Schweitzer Debate Responses

Opening Statement

Well Wolf I'm happy to be here in Vegas to discuss the pressing issues facing this nation. We've got a lot on our plate but it's nothing compared to what average Americans are dealing with. To little job openings, to many wage cuts, too much being paid at the pump, while Washington seems to be entirely satisfied. Well I can tell you Vegas I am not satisfied, we can do better and we must. I'm running because Americans deserve a bold fighter who won't compromise in the fight for better lives, better wages, and better jobs. I ask for your vote because if we want to win in November we'll need a people's democrat, and I'm hoping to be that man.

Senator Feingold has claimed he's the only candidate who is a DC outsider unbeholden to special interests. As a governor running as the "People's Democrat," how do you respond to these claims?

Well I think Russ is just campaigning, I think he's painting with a broad brush you know. I think he's had a fine Senate career, he's done a fantastic job fighting for working people in the Senate. But I think it's ironic saying he's the DC outsider in the race, I've never spent a day in Washington, Russ has spent years. I've been in Montana, solving problems and fighting for progressive change and we've done a lot. More jobs, higher wages, less corruption, cheaper prescription drugs, and despite Republican opposition, I think the healthcare plan we've drawn up can be an example to the nation. And as I like to say, whenever Republicans send me another crooked bill to rip off Montanans, I will veto it and if need be with a hot poker.

Closing Statement

Well folks I think we've had a fine discussion of the issues, of the merits of each candidate, but I want to ask you this. We gotta win this election, we have an chance to get an unprecedented chance to improve peoples lives. We could get better jobs, quality healthcare, we could rein in Wall Street like never before and we can stand up for workers, or we could get a return to trickle down economics and big banks and big pharma holding court in Congress. We can win this election if we acknowledge the problems people face and that we are there to fix them, we can win this election if we do more than support the status quo, we gotta step beyond that and pledge to build a future for all Americans, and that all Americans can grow and thrive in. Thank you Las Vegas.
