I think Tim Walz is the next Jay Nixon. A white Midwestern governor who could have been a good white VP balance is finished.

I think the MN GOP could make a resurgence in the 2020s at the statewide level.

Walz is extremely popular and considering how large MN is (and how large its urban population is) having ~1000 COVID deaths at the end of May will reap dividends unless there's a huge winter resurgence.

MN GOP is better than they were a decade ago but they're still deep in a hole considering 3/5 of the state lives in the MSP area and considering it's way above average for college education. If when you say "could make a resurgence in the 2020s" you mean they might finally win a statewide race for the first time since 2006, I agree. But things need to change a lot for Walz to lose.

Bob Kroll, many people feel will run and may run a law and order campaign.

Rich Stanek, the former Hennepin County Sheriff may run a law and order campaign with this

Tim Walz is no Jay Nixon.

He immediately condemned the officers and immediately brought in the national guard and is addressing the problems in Minneapolis.

Jay Nixon was like a clown contributing to the problem.

I mean, he has a 65% approval rating. In 2022, people are likely to not remember this if it doesn't get too much more out of hand. Remember, he repped a rural district for 12 years and is still decently liked in the rural areas

I think Ellison is a goner if Biden wins though

Is Ellison likely to catch more flack for this than Walz?

Ellison is just not doing well, he had 2 allegations of Domestic Abuse. He is a muslim man from MSP and he only got 49% of the vote in 2018.

I think some sheriff will run against Ellison. Good lord the rurals will probably vote like appalachia in that race.

Walz is safe. This is like asking if Johnny Nalbandian will beat Judy Chu.

He won despite those allegations and had a green party candidate get 6% of the vote. I agree he's more vulnerable than Walz, but he won despite those and nobody will care or remember in 2022

I know I was just listing the reasons he would be weaker than Walz I don't think he'll lose

We'll look back on this thread in amusement in two years time when the Mike Lindell wins the GOP primary and runs a hilarious sacrificial lamb campaign.

Agreed. This is two years in the future and this is Minnesota. Walz would probably win a second term as governor.

Not only has Ellison been somewhat normalized, he's taking over the prosecution of the officers who killed George Floyd. That'll give him a huge boost if he convicts them.

I'd rate MN-GOV 2022 as Lean R/Tilt R

MN Republicans are going to use the Floyd murder/Minneapolis crime-police rift as a wedge to win the goverorship

Daudt can eke a win over Walz 50-49 with a recount

Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar are lucky they are not up for reelection in 2022 and if Peterson wins reelection in MN-07, he'll retire in '22.

MN-AG is Tossup

People are lucky that the police union-backed Doug Wardlaw did not win in 2018 because he would have been like Daniel Cameron in KY and not even bother charging the cops for murder

Is this a joke? The election is Likely D at worst. I don't know who Kurt Daudt is but I know he won't beat Tim Walz.

It's a bronz reply which is pretty close to a joke, just that it is not funny.

That guy is considering somewhat of a joke and sort of a meme here. I doubt he'd even win the GOP nomination unless absolutely no one else serious runs.

For the record I believe Michelle Fischbach is the most likely candidate as she likely won't have a House seat anymore even if she beats Peterson and is pretty credible to the GOP base. Which would be the first election between two non-Twin Cities metro candidates in Minnesota since...I honestly have no idea.

However it would take quite the wave for her to beat Walz.
