I'd probably go for Ledru-Rollins, because Raspail was always a no-hoper (feel bad for Lamartine though, who was a thoroughly decent man who deserved more). If I had to choose between Napoleon and Cavaignac, I'd probably chose the former, even with hindsight.

Louis-Napoleon. Good aspects to be found in Cavaignac and Lamartine though.

1848 campaign in a nutshell:

Cavaignac: I'm a general who successfully defended our holdings in Algeria. Top that.
Lamartine: I'm a famous author, poet, member of the Academie and one of the founding fathers of our new glorious Republic. Top that.
Louis-Napoleon: My name's Napoleon.

Also the 1848 Campaign:

Lamartine: I'm the face of the Republic, which has consisted of nothing but betrayed hopes and uprisings.
Cavaignac: I'm responsible for the level of bloodshed during the June Days.
Ledru-Rollins: I supported the mass-arrest of leftist leaders during the May uprisings, but vote for me anyways.
Louis-Napoleon: I am a harmless academic and have done nothing (yet) that anyone can seriously criticize.

In any other nation, Lamartine, like Lafayette, would have been the greatest statesman of the century. But it is impossible for any other Frenchman to overcome a Bonaparte.

Louis-Napoleon was indeed very skilled at playing a harmless type. He was rarely present at the National Assembly's sittings despite being elected as deputy with the biggest share of votes, and when he spoke, he only furthered the impression of him being a joke due to his German accent. All the Bonapartist propaganda was being done by a selected and highly efficient group of operatives. So skilfully in fact everybody else thought Louis-Napoleon has no organization of his own.

You can almost see a parallel with Claudius, as portrayed by Graves. "Claudius? Oh, he's just a poor, stuttering idiot playing with his parchments. Who cares? Let's go back to plotting against each other."

Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte ofc (who I prefer to the uncle actually)

Funny thing about the uncle is that everybody thinks of him as a military commander first, overlooking the fact he'd been an extremely efficient and innovative administrator in time of peace. The nephew was pretty good at domestic affairs, but we all know his foreign adventures ended badly.

On a personal level, I actually find the nephew more interesting the uncle. For all his genius, Napoleon I rode on the tide of times. Naturally it took considerable skills to navigate it, until he finally lost control. Napoleon III accomplished his goal of restoring the empire against all odds, thanks to his cunning and ability to fool people without having things to show off like the uncle, famed from his victories before taking power. Napoleon I was a historical giant and inspired the people, but Napoleon III was far superior at the art of manipulation and plotting. Even his earlier failures at taking power via force proved beneficial, as it put his opponents' mind at ease, believing he'd been compromised.

Maybe, but sadly Bismarck was a Prussian

My vote is for Eugenia de Montijo, the future Empress consort

I think we've had this thread pretty recently. As I said last time, I'd vote Raspail in solidarity with the workers of Paris who'd been massacred in June. I do have a lot of respect for Lamartine and Ledru-Rollin, though, and I feel bad that they got dealt such a lousy hand.

Napoleon. He's better than Hamilton and can get votes from those in the Regional Protection Party.

The Virgin Lamartine and the Chad Louis-Napoleon. Someone more talented than me make that meme.
