NYPD cars plowing into protesters:

Great! Let this be a warning to those who try to block police cars, or cars in general.

I really hope the other officers are arrested today.

This is a good example of the many grey areas we are seeing from these protests. It may be hard for some to process them, but they're the reality of this situation. Nothing about what is happening is that cut-and-dry.

A semi-truck just drove into a crowd of peaceful protesters at I-35W in Minneapolis.

Capital offenses or should-be-capital offenses according to the American hard right and their authoritarian-centrist enablers like forumlurker:

  • Selling loose cigarettes
  • Passing a counterfeit twenty
  • Blocking traffic

How long till we add stealing horses and concealing an out-of-wedlock stillbirth to that list?

True. It's good to see, and something we need to keep reminding ourselves as this goes on.

Jacob Pederson Is Not the AutoZone Umbrella Man, St. Paul Police Say
Quote
Aviral and incendiary social media accusation against a St. Paul, Minnesota, police officer is false, the police department said in a statement. The situation shows how quickly information can spread on social media, ricocheting around the web and damaging people’s reputations, especially in a fast-moving situation like the unrest in the Twin Cities.

According to the police statement, the social media falsehood happened to Jacob Pederson, a St. Paul police officer who was erroneously accused of being the mysterious black-clad, umbrella-carrying man involved in methodically breaking windows at an AutoZone during the protests/riots in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Here’s a video of the umbrella man.

So does the Minneapolis/St. Paul police care about finding the Umbrella guy who started the riot?  Seems like the only thing they will say is that the person wasn't a cop... but won't say much about how they are looking to find the person...

How do you all think this impacts the election?

Well, instead of having one bungled recent national crisis, now he has two going at the same time (COVID-19 [>100,000 deaths and counting] and this). It's gotten so bad that our cities are on literal fire, so much so that he's gone AWOL, hiding away in the White House bunker and refusing to address the nation.

What do you think?

I pray it doesn't happen, but can you imagine a 9/11 sized terrorist attack from ISIS happening right now? And imagine that it was designed to NOT unify the country... if ISIS targets a mostly white target and if there's an ISIS video message released "white America is the devil and we don't blame subjugated black America for the what happened in the Middle East".

Again, I would obviously be 100% against that. But what horrible timimg it would be right now.

His wife announced he's divorcing him.

Funny that only now she found out he's a murderous psychopath.

Or she wasn't willing to do so previously when he still had a gun and was capable of hurting her. That he was an abusive husband seems not unlikely to me.

Yep. People who are violent to the public at large are very often violent to their loved ones as well.

Really, so we're just going to start imagining that this guy beats his wife and abuses puppies too now? Wasn't the killing of an unarmed citizen enough to condemn him for?

It's obviously conjecture at this point, but it's not completely random conjecture given the order of events "cop gets into plenty of low-level social and career trouble for a pattern of violence over a period of many years but remains a cop in good standing->cop kills someone and gets booted off the force->cop's wife suddenly files for divorce". It should go without saying that I would love to be wrong, and I hope BRTD would too.

No one is condemning him for anything besides what we know he did. However, what is being suggested would not be surprising based off of what we know about Chauvin, and the sheer numbers. Given the way things have played out, it's a reasonable thing to speculate.

There are plenty of other explanations for this. Could be they're just trying to protect their assets from civil suits. The obvious (and more likely) possibility is that she is just not capable of handling this media whirlwind and wants to get out of it before it consumes her life. In any case, I don't think that a person who is a complete bastard in one realm of his life must therefore be a complete bastard in all other aspects. Hell, even Hitler loved dogs and fed breadcrumbs to mice. It's very easy to think that a person can be rotten to the core, and it can be a comforting thought, because it helps us separate the "bad" people from the rest of us. But the truth is that everyone is capable of doing things like this, and a person's horrible deeds don't preclude their ability to do good (or vice-versa). This guy probably loved his wife and kids. They probably greeted him at home every day and lived a decent middle-class life. And then he killed an unarmed man for absolutely no reason. That is the real horror here.

They depict police departments kneeling in solidarity for Mr. Floyd - I believe that's Coral Gables PD on the left.

All those volunteers cleaning up cities are the real heroes. You build up communities, you don’t tear them down. Much respect.
