If Trump loses in November, the GOP will likely try to abandon the Trump legacy. This means anyone closely associated with the Trump administration is DOA (except people like Nikki Haley who were well-known before Trump). If Biden wins in 2020, the '24 GOP field will be packed with younger stars like Haley, Hawley, Cotton, Rubio, DeSantis, and so on. I doubt Pompeo would stand a chance.

If Trump gets re-elected, the GOP will embrace his presidency and legacy, making Pompeo's run a lot more palatable. He'll only be 61 in 2024 (Mike Pompeo is younger than Obama, believe it or not), and he has name recognition. If the bigger names stay out of the race (simply because it's very rare for a party to win a third term), then sure, Pompeo has a shot.

Yeah someone like Pompeo or Pence only stand a chance of getting the nomination in 2024 if Trump wins this year.
