Do you think Mark Reed would carpetbag and run against Sherman even if Reed’s residence was drawn out?

Yes lol. He's pathological.
Many Republican candidate’s carpetbag into safe D districts. My district’s GOP nominee John Briscoe is also crazy. Who’s your GOP nominee, if any?

Eric Early, lol.

Does Early even live in CA-28? Wasn't Early expected to not make the general election?

Schiff is really good. He isn't going to have a serious Dem challenger (unlike Kevin de Leon, who faced Pete Choi). I don't know or care where Early is from. He is irrelevant.

Did you say that you think Lowenthal could win against Quirk-Silva or Chaffe?

It's a possibility. It's hard to tell without knowing the district lines. Who would you vote for?

Its interesting that most (all?) of the examples of Rs carpetbagging cited here are in CA. When I think carpetbagging, I mostly think Ds running in D districts having nothing to do with them. Examples include several Kennedys, Hillary (ok, a senator), and numerous local NYers.

Mimi Walters carpetbagged. Darrell Issa carpetbags. Gary Miller did it. John Briscoe does it. Johnny Nalbandian does it. James Bradley does it.

Who could forget Scott Brown carpetbagging to New Hampshire after losing reelection in Massachusetts (Senate again)?

Also I think the focus is on California just because it's an ERM thread.

tom macarthur comes to mind, he’s from morris county and moved to toms river in 2014 to run after the seat became open, and he repeatedly accused andy kim (who’s actually from south jersey) of carpetbagging in 2018. ultimate projection

Schilling is a carpetbagger. Would he beat Rita Hart or not?

Why does it seem that the most common form of carpetbagging is a Republican running in a heavily Democratic district?

Observer bias?

You might also count Pete Sessions running in TX-17, as whilst he's originally from Waco, he hasn't lived in the district for about 40 years.

Sara Jacobs is a Democratic carpetbagger. Juan Vargas is another. Grace Napolitano only because she didn’t want to face Linda Sanchez after being drawn out.

Napolitano represents a nice chunk of her old district still. That's not really carpet-bagging.

What about Jacobs (CA-49 resident) and Vargas (CA-53 resident)?

NJ-03 (Ocean/Burlington) in 2014, both R candidates carpetbagged from North Jersey: Tom MacArthur formerly mayor of Randolph Township, Morris County and Steve Lonegan, formerly mayor of Bogota, Bergen County.

Does Tommy Tuberville from Florida count as a carpetbagger? Jon Ossoff was one.
